A great song, but I can't stand the vocals from Roger and Brian (?) on the album version. Freddie certainly delivers (as always).
Love the duet between Roger and Freddie live. Especially the Tokorozawa version.

Good song. Not one of their most musically complex. I agree with Rick, live was a great improvement. Roger singing the melody for his verse parts is much nicer than the weird dissonant sounding falsetto thing they have going on in the studio version. The real drums and slightly faster tempo are good too, and the synth is actually pleasing to listen to in the live versions, makes a nice contrast with the typical guitar sound.

I like the song a lot. It's quite good, but then again, Queen had 20-30 songs which are even better.

Yes, I too agree. Actually I think with 2 omissions Hot Space would be a much better album. The songs that I really don't like on the album at all are Dancer and Cool Cat. other than those 2, I love all of them. Staying Power works pretty well on stage. My favourite track on the album is Las Palabras De Amor.

It's a great song live. I don't think that las palabras de amor gets enough praise- does anyone else appreciate this song as much as I do?

it's a great live track, but in studio is horrible...

don't understand why so many trash it.[/QUOTE]
I can think of a couple reasons:
Queen II
A Night At The Opera
Hard to believe Body Language and Action This Day are the same band less than a decade later.

I do. It's one of my favourite 80s tracks for sure.

I too love 'Las Palabras de Amor' ! My daughter learned how to play it on the guitar - we just love it. Beautiful song.
I have to 'censor' Body Language, though, from my 10 year old when we play the Hot Space album.... I skip over that one!
Action This Day and Put out the Fire are the two semi-rocking songs on the album and I like them a lot.

Body Language isn't anything too special. I listen to it only for the sake of Freddie's awesome high vocals in chorus.

"The songs that I really don't like on the album at all are Dancer and Cool Cat."
Dancer is a lost gem.. lost to the Hot Space album... with proper instruments and not horrible sounding synths is could have been mega... Cool Cat isnt worthy of mention, have maybe only listened to it all the way through twice in my life.... and I am old... :/

To me, Queen went well over board with this. They didn't dip the tip of their toe to test the waters but they jumped right in. Just look at the first 4-5 tracks of Hot Space. They don't want you to like Hot Space "despite" the funk tracks but because of it, so when I hear people saying the album would be better without the funk tracks I think they are missing the point. It wouldn't be Hot Space.
I do agree that Dancer is a lost gem and, to me, it's a good example of how the rest of the album could have sounded. Ok ok, the synths are sub-par but at least it's got heavy guitars in it. Musically, it's the perfect blend of rock and funk. Michael Jackson did it way better, of course, and Hot Space is no Thriller, but it's a good effort from a very diverse band. That's part of the reason why I like Queen so much.

Dancer is just a mess. For me, the only song in the "funk/black category" (to quote Fred) that really works is Back Chat. Brian really nails the solo. Staying Power is like a parody of that genre of song; Body Language is sleazy and awful; Action This Day and Calling All Girls are instantly forgetable; Cool Cat is a blank space where a song might be -- completely emotionless; Put out the Fire is uninspiring, and sounds terrible. How did he get the Red Special to sound so harsh?; in contrast, Las Palabras de Amor and Under Pressure are fine songs. Overall, a poor album for Queen, with weak, banal songwriting, crappy synths and messy arrangements. Hard to believe this is the same band who made The Game about a year earlier.
