Okay let me explain some things : Fact 1 this was a recent found : so that is wass excluded to champions of the world (1995), Rare Live (1987) , These are the Days etc.etc. is that is was RECENTLY found, that does NOT mean 1946 ;-)
Imagine : The Queen Archives in London, spanning various formats from 1973- present.... Interviews , live shots by broadcasting station, filmed project etc.etc.Here you will find a picture of 1 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) 2 inch tape : http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=562865287070430&set=a.425940637429563.100406.100000408904857&type=3&theater (you need to login to Facebook for seeing the link)

The size of the damn thing is about 13 inch. It's weight a couple of kilo's , about 4-6 kg.... The running time on this damn thing is about 25 minutes.

Imagine a archive , with footage from 73-86 , how many of these reels will it be , let alone the 16mm. and 35mm and D1 formats etc.etc.

Imagine a show like Wembley which is boxed with ALL camera angles .... You will have 100's of those reels...

Hope you will get the picture : there is only 1 (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) way to find out what is one those tapes : by playing it....This is a mega timerobbing job....

I have great repsect for Greg Brooks... to us he has the most exciting job in the world, but also the most boring one, seeing known footage over and over again, hoping to find something new...

This will take a while before the total thing is investigated, labeled and proparly stored away for further use....

This is the reason why it is a recent find !

"Live At The Rainbow" should be part of an anthology covering their entire career up to 2012 with Adam Lambert containing a number of concerts or at least parts of some unreleased and some release.

As far as "Hammersmith" is concerned that should be in a set as well containing the 1975, 1979, and 2012 concerts...
I hope you're joking about the Queen+AL concerts.

Well done. You've posted a picture of a tape from 1977.

Now, back to my point, why would they record the soundcheck when they couldn't even be bothered to record the encore? The former was never going to be aired so why record it?

Now I hope you're right. For that to be the case, you would have to be informed by someone working in the archives or seen it with your own eyes. So far, you haven't claimed either of these things. Or you might be making it up, as many attention-seekers have done here in the past. I take the sensible option of not believing everything I read on Queenzone. But again, if you are right, it's a very interesting find. We will find out soon enough I suppose.

I'm sorry for my stupidity, but how does the photo of this reel explain the existence of the recently found Hammersmith soundcheck? This photo tells me nothing.

By the way, can anyone tell me what does SD stand for? Is it shortened for SDTV (Standard-definition television)?

Forget about the photo, I just wanted to show people they can hae a idea of what a 2"inch tape looks like. The format is the same as 1"tape only the latter one is 1"inch slimmer... these were the standards when Queen had their succes. So they have a lot of these formats.

I do not own any reel of the Hammy show... so I simply cannot show it.

The reason why the encores weren't recorded by the cameramen could have multiple reasons.

PLausible reasons are :

This was a live shoot, so no editing room, they record as long as the live broadcast would last.Further recording would have been useless for the live broadcast.

or :

It was a Union thing : the camera crew were not allowed to film after so many hours , or film after a specific time given by their Union.

(please note , that GB was never invaded or occupied in ful, though their biggest enemy were the Unions,a powerfull unarmed army!)

These are plausible reasons why it was not recorded. But now we don't know the specific reason. It should be with a 99% certaincy one of those 2 reasons.
