This subject always fascinates me.

I once saw on eBay a signed 'Freddie Mercury Album' on vinyl LP (released in 1992, you might recall), signed by Freddie Mercury (who died in 1991, you will definitely recall).

I really wanted to get this item. Would have loved it... and was willing to pay the scheming hapless idiot £25 or so for it, but can you believe someone paid £140 for it!!!!! so I lost it. WTF were they thinking!?

I wonder at what point the 'winner' of that auction realised!? Was it YOU??????

So.... who here has purchased or seen a really shockingly awful signed Queen item? Where did you get it? How much did you pay? How did you realise you'd been had?

There was a QUEEN II fully signed LP on ebay two weeks ago, Buy it now price was £600. It was REALLY abysmal. Clearly all 4 signatures written by some 13 year old school kid on the bus home, with his eyes shut. So I did that 'make me an offer' thing, and offered £6.20. I got a nasty reply!!!!

Let's name and shame. What do you have???

I've seen examples on eBay of Made In Heaven (the Queen album of course) "autographed" by Freddie, usually with very obvious fake signatures.

There's been a few photos of Gary Mullen autographed by Freddie, it's Funnier when you consider they look nothing alike..

I could create a Freddie Mercury Death Certificate signed by Freddie if you want.

The worst thing would be a photograph of Jim Hutton with his arm around Freddie's body while putting his thumbs up. Signed by Jim of course.

I wouldn't be surprised if it actually exists....

Seen that one as well ! I even emailed EBAy but nothing happened.

This scam is for me the reason not buy signed stuff anymore, only from very reliable collectors.... But not on the internet.

Oh shit, don't start this one - you'll only get kurgan on telling you that verifying signatures is just guesswork, and that we can never be totally sure.

All banter about you aside, Greg, this is actually a decent topic. I once bought a "signed" NOTW LP from a guy called Galvinmoondust on eBay. This was before the queen autographs.com site, but, because the price wasn't crippling, I was a bit dubious - until jackie at QFC "verified" it for me. The fact that Freddie wasn't on it, and the story that it was signed in 1994 led me to take the gamble. Big mistake! After I found it to be a duffer, I demanded a refund - but there was no PayPal protection at the time, so I was had. I traded it later with another guy much, much later - I told him it was a duffer, and he said he knew, but wanted it for the vinyl. He then sold it for £800. There's plenty of injustice there, but morally it wasn't me in the wrong :)

I bought this signed John Deacon item on ebay for 450 dollars and a pair of hand knit socks. I hope it's legit. :(
