Here 'tis! The trackslisting and cover artwork for "ICON"! The new greatest hits compilation! And boy is it good with the cover and the tracklist! I am psyched for real! Maybe a two c.d. set could be done next as that has happened for some recording artists. For them it was (at least usually from what I remember off of my head at this moment) called "ICON 2" exemplifying that it was a two disc package. Just to clarify this is a one disc set. 'tis:

Thanks to Inu-linger for being the first to find, notice, and announce on the message boards to the fans all around the planet Earth (and...um, where ever else) that this compilation was not only going to be released but that it was to be called "ICON" and posted the link to the Amazon.com website to show that it was true and coming soon!

I'm really excited about this! It looks as though they are focusing on the harder rocking songs...interesting.

SO let's take a look at the tracklisting first...eleven songs. Second they have five songs from "Greatest Hits I" and three songs from "Greatest Hits II". Then they have three songs people I think would agree fits well on a hits compilation. Two of which have been on another greatest hits compilation in North Amercia on Hollywood Records called "Classic Queen". Those two are "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Tie Your Mother Down". The other interesting track that I think most people would agree could fit nicely on this type of compilation is "I'm In Love With My Car". Perfect list in my book in terms of what this compilation is trying to accomplish as a generic budget compilation. And so far looks quite nice for being just that. I am not sure I have ever seen the picture before...has anyone else? It looks new to me in the sense of being an unreleased picture that is.

So sorry to dull the enthusiasm here but of what interest is it to those of us who have the albums anyway? I'll go water the pot plants now whilst listening to More of that Jazz or Drowzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (Not in any way a bad song either)

Well it is exciting that other people will have a chance to purchase a new compilation and be exposed or introduced to Queen when they might not have. Then there are the fans that enjoy the concept of it both artistically (whether it is the selection of songs, what versions get used, and their running order), and commercially. I think it looks like a really appealing product. The time periods it covers along with the choices of songs are quite interesting...I think they did a great job in selections and running order.

The cover is the only thing about this thing that doesn't completely suck. Greatest Hits Light + Stone Cold Crazy + I'm In Love With My Car. Sad. Very, very sad.

Just waiting for the next "con": "Queen- The Ballads" compilation at Christmas with a new song from the archive (HATE that kind of selling ploy - they deserve to have most people download it for free of the net)

The photos were taken at a photo session on 4 September 1974 by Johnny Dewe Mathews. Various photos have been used lately on 'product' including the cover of the 'Absolute Greatest' album.

Queen are the latest artist to be added to this 'Hits' series. Many other bands and singers have been included like: Whitesnake, Culture Club, Heart, Billy Squier, Donna summer, Mike Oldfield, Grand Funk Railroad and many more.

This is really a non-issue. Sure the track listing could have been better to a degree but in all reality this is not a "band" release per se. This is just an entry into a specific format? Did anyone really think this would be something other than a GH type release? Or have anything new? This is a bargain bin greatest hits album confined to a pre-established "ICON" format. God people will bitch about anything.

Why discuss it? You know stuff like this happens........don't gt the pulse racing about it. The band are so inconsequential in the current marketplace its now gone beyond the ridiculous.
