what he says in the video is true?...or he's just lying to cover his ripoff?
Nick Browning · Member since
yeah, but he still stole it

No inside knowledge but would guess he's lying his ass off. Jim Beach is not giving up history and future income for $4 million. Someone ask Brian.

I have not watched the clip or what have but I hope to God that this information is incorrect.

I e-mailed Brian about this last year, and he responded that it was not true at all

I didn't actually listen to the video since I'm at work but is it possible that he means that after the lawsuit, he now owns the Ice Ice Baby song completely. As in the payoff was for future royalties....so now if someone plays Ice Ice Baby he gets all the royalties?

What a fucking joke.

Vanilla Ice: The lawsuit worked out in my favor because I ended up buying their song. It was 4 million dollars and it was one of the best investments--
DJ: You own Under Pressure now?
Vanilla Ice: Yeah. Yeah.... The same way Michael Jackson bought the Beatles. People can buy the publishing.... It was a great investment. It was better than keep paying the royalties.
So he's talking about publishing rights, not the recording. But I still can't imagine Queen would sell that.

Yeah, someone ought to clear that up. Though Inu-liger has come close to doing so I must say.

He's been telling this story for a while. From a Feb 22, 2010 interview on CNN:
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1002/22/ctw.01.html
VANILLA ICE:
A lot of people questioned me -- did you sample "Under Pressure" from David Bowie and Queen? And, you know, this was before the lawsuit came. Now, of course, we know I did. But at the time, you know, everybody knew I did, but I couldn't come out on camera and just go, I did, because that, you know, automatically admits it. So we were going through a lawsuit at the time and, you know, the -- it's a great song. The great thing is, is I bought back all my royalties and I bought that song, too. So it kind of comes back around, kind of like Michael Jackson both The Beatles. So, you know, there's a reason for that. And now I -- I can do whatever I want with it, because I own it.

He clearly doesn't own Under Pressure (look at the publishing and copyright rights when it comes out on compilations) but I suppose he may now have the right to take all income from Ice Ice Baby when it's played, and licence that track for adverts etc without any knout from Queen

Vanilla Ice is an idiot.
Isn't it amazing that John Deacon wrote two of the most iconic bass riffs on the history of rock? This and AOBTD.

I think he is an idiot and doesn't know what he's talking about. I think he did get the song rights as it pertains to Ice Ice Baby most likely and he believes that means he has the song.
