I thought it was Bowie who actually came up with the riff?

Accounts vary. I think it was Deacon, and I really like the story that they jammed it then went to the pub and promptly forgot it.

I think the evidence that Bowie came up with the riff is solely on the fact it lacks from People On Streets, which was the UP demo. Chances are IF Bowie came up with it, it was itself nicked from one of his own players at the time (he did that a bit) so we should probably be asking George Murray.

John Deacon wrote the bass riff according to the surviving Queen members. Vanilla Ice certainly did not buy "Under Pressure", he paid up for using the riff without asking permission. After the lawsuit the songwriter credits were given to Queen and David Bowie. He seems to like to rewrite history in his favour like claiming he sold 160 million records, which is very unlikely imo.
I do not want any google ads here.

Maybe 'Vanilla' owns the rights to use it e.g not face future lawsuits based on continued promotion of Ice Ice Baby. I'd very much doubt he would own the song. I doubt whether an early 90s rap star with one hit song and 20 years of being an F-list celebrity who'd have to be giving oral sex to the corpse of Princess Diana to be even considered news worthy these days - has or has ever had a spare $4m for anything, let aone this.

You are all jealous of Ice because his song was bigger than Bowie and those fags in Queen could ever dream of take away Wayne's World and they are nothing. Stop hating that Ice is a genius. It's public record get off your fat asses and leave your parents basement for once and do the research. You will see he bought the publishing rights for $3,980,456. Anyway homos enjoy your lame Queen listen to some up to date music and before you ask no I don't still listen to Ice. Wait before I go love this one "Brian could you find out about this for us" can you say lazy

LOL...jealous of Ice??? That's pretty hilarious considering Ice never did much. Personally...Ice and Queen don't belong in the same sentence...Some people are totally deaf and blind.

I can remember that there was a lawsuit. It ends up with a "Vergleich" (german/ I don`t know the correct english translation) ICE have to pay and he was free to use the sample in his song(s). Just my personal memorys.

Next point of interest..who wrote the baseline...not so easy as it seems. John himself mentioned in an interview that Bowie comes up with it ( maybe he was ironic cause Bowie was "supercoked" that day and his behavior was that of an classic @sshole).
Maybe John played a rough line and Bowie give some advice to change the riff a bit. Who knows.
