I'm 45 years old. I KNOW Queen. but for the past 2 weeks, I've been obsessed with Freddie ! I'm on the computer reading everything I can possibly read, watching tons of videos on youtube. and it's crazy, I think somehow his soul is reaching out to me ! I know ! i'm losing my mind ! on TV, target has a new commercial and they're using "under pressure" as the theme song. I've been seeing this commercial for what seems to me, TOO much. and then there's a geico commercial. a little boy is saying "knock knock" and someone says "who's there?" he says, "Queen ." at work, we have this bulletin board with all the employees names on it, I was looking at it and there's a name: Queen . there's NO ONE named queen at work ! and then I was googling something, I forgot what it was...and then in my google search "Farouk" came up! it seems when I drive, there is almost always a Queen song playing. I finally said, "Freddie ! leave me alone ! what do you want from me?"

is anyone else obsessed with him?

I really think you might want to consult a doctor.

I know...I don't think I need a psychiatric consult. I'm hoping the law of diminishing returns starts to set in soon. (I have a degree in economics, it's an economic theory/law.)

Never heard of someone your age being so obsessed with celebrities. It's usually young people who are, but not someone 45 years old.

You sure you're ok?

I'm ok. My personality is such that I'm drawn to beautiful tragedies. Freddie is a beautiful tragedy . A tragedy in that he died so young , he was a genius , I don't know why I have a newfound love for Queen , I've KNOWN Queen; but somehow there's now an urgency I feel to read , see , know everything about Freddie; the more I know , the more he is exactly that; a beautiful tragedy. I read he was so insecure w Jim Hutton, always needing reassurance , and what lover cheated on him ? It's said he discoverd a lover cheated on him and he was away on tour or something , then he flew this lover to him to break up w him face to face . Freddie breaks my heart . . . It's like I feel his pain. . . I really don't know what triggered this obsession w freddie . Who knows . But still , rest in peace , freddie .

And the fact the John deacon and Brian fell into a deep depression after freddie died , my god , that makes it even more beautifully tragic , and roger crying after 20 years when he recalls the day freddie died , and John deacon "retired" from music and is seemingly a recluse . What a beautiful soul freddie was , he gave so much to Mary Austin in his will . . Freddie was a gentle , tortured , kind soul . RIP FM .

Just to clarify: my post wasn't meant as a jab of some kind. It's just that usually, when someone suddenly becomes very compulsive/obsessed (to the point, as you mentioned, of seeing references to the subject in completely unrelated matter) about something and it doesn't wear off after a few days, it tends to be a symptom of something else being the matter, either psychologically, socially or whatnot. I have a friend who's had two burn-outs in the last few years, and just before she crashed, she had a spree of obsessive behaviour both times. It kind of reminds me of something like that. Are you under more stress than usual of late?

Did I ever tell you guys that I saw Freddie's ghost in my living room some time back? Did I also tell you that, according to a ouija board, Freddie is one of my guardians....and that he IS a God???

Thomas Quinn. I know you meant no harm. I'm a nurse , so I know about physical health and mental health, I'm ok . I'm not having a breakdown or Auditory or hallucinatory delusions . I'm fine . I know me. You know , I was /am "into" George Gershwin . He was brilliant . I love rhapsody in blue, an American in Paris , and you know he died young too? At 36. He had been complaining of a headache for years. , long story short , it was a brain tumor . So talented. Dead too young. But I wasn't "obsessed " w George Gershwin like I am w freddie. Something about freddie has occupied me; it's his beauty, his sadness , I think it's because I feel akin to freddie . . .

Thistle boy! Can you give me the details ? I'm dying to know the whole story ! Here's my personal email: gabe81091@aol.com. You see, I'm a gentle soul too: gabe is my beloved deceased golden retriever. 8-10-91 was his birthday .

And Thomas Quinn. I'm WAY too cheap to go on a manic spending spree !

As always , RIP dear, beloved Freddie .

Rose, have you considered writing about these experiences and powerful emotions? You can pour this passion into a work of commercial fiction (paranormal is hot right now) - or several works if you'd like to write short stories. Just give yourself a happily-ever-after (or at least a happily-for-now) ending with these Freddie-scenarios, and you might please a lot of readers (whether you mention Freddie by name or make him anonymous). Self-publish it if you want or set up your own website/blog and post one story at a time for readers to enjoy for free. Since your feelings are so strong right now, you might as well turn the situation into something fun and solid, and, if you start controlling it, it might have less control over you. Just some thoughts.

Magical Freddie Mercury, THANK you for the kind words. you know , I was (once again) watching an internet documentary about Freddie. it was "freddie's millions". it was a 7 part series, and I can't stop falling in love with him. it's said his first paycheck at some job, I think a shoe store, was 70 pounds. He gave 50 pounds to a freind who was in desperate need to pay his rent. his mom was livid ! ahhh, stories like this, I LOVE about people, and to think Freddie did that...makes me love him even more.

Here's s thing - switch off your internet connection and tv, leave any mobile devices on a table switched off, go outside of your house and engage with some real people somewhere. Anywhere. There's plenty to do in Chicago.........

Yeah, unless they're stalkers.

In the OPs case it's a New fascination. The rest is a media blitz.

Rt and bm haven't gotten over the fact that they "lost America"

Hence the efforts to maximize exposure simultaneously with the I heart radio gig coming up.

Eh it makes for fun times.

The classic mOuntain dew commercial etc.

I hope everyone can forget about the 8th dwarf dappy though.

Media blitzes resurrected Johnny Cash. ... imho a pretty overrated country singer. He didn't WRITE and he's got nothing on Waylon, Willie Kriss , Jerry Reed, Frizzel etc... even Toby Keith has a stronger list.

But having his music around when the film WALK THE LINE came out made a bunch of youngsters think that his image flicking off the camera was so baddass that it sold them in the notion of grandpa's music being cool. .. despite the redundant oom ba ba rhythm and SPOKEN lines.

Give me Marty Robbins before cash any day.

He wasn't bad he's just become so overrated out here

Personally I think cash was a better actor than singer. ....

That flick with Andy Griffith was pretty damn good

Damn good
