Ps. Never had Freddie's ghost offer me cocaine in a bathroom stall. You guys have some strange stories!

Cool post

whatever the case, I LOVE my/our Freddie. Thursday would have been his 67th birthday. May his soul be at peace. he was a genius. I wish Roger and Brian would tour with Marc Martel and John Deacon would come out of seclusion. but oh well.

@Matt:

If you want to be a country music critic, at least make sure you know what you're talking about.

"He didn't WRITE" - sure. Apart from "Big River", "Folsom Prison Blues", "Get Rhythm", "Hey, Porter", "I Walk The Line" and a score of other songs, he didn't write anything. Please. Where do you get this stuff from?

"despite the redundant oom ba ba rhythm and SPOKEN lines"

The "boom-chicka-boom" (as it is usually referred to) rhythm was popularized by Cash's backup band, The Tennessee Three, so you can't really hold him responsible for making it a cliché. That's like saying Beethoven was a cliché-composer for composing "Für Elise" and the "Mondschein Sonate" simply because they've been played to death. As for the SPOKEN lines, that's because the songs in question are TALKING BLUES, a country- and folk- song style that went on to influence rap.

You don't have to like Cash, but I get pretty angry when people start coming up with lies and spreading their ignorance as "arguments" against an artist. You've made one hell of an ass of yourself today, Matt.

Partial ass. Partially a rant at the consumerist adoration of the guy out here among "rockabilly/psychobilly" revivalists.

People literally reducing a guy to a culture stamp.

Get rhythm was a popular phase used everywhere and likely from a blues man.

Folsom was "crescent city blues".... the artists name escapes me. But at least he influenced merle haggard.

Overrated as hell but became a staple thanks to the longevity of his show, "rebel" iconography and probably his drug use
. Yeah. More likely blubbering rant about the ridiculous current culture tank than a yank on him. But he WAS a better actor than singer imho. Maybe I was just upset that none of the other guys are appreciated by anyone but musicians.

The oomp a doomp whatever was me ridiculing the fact that it's embraced by even gothic white make up eating black metal fans as being something somehow "cool".

But you're right. Shouldn't rag on the man just because people know him from the un emotive version of reznor's HURT or from stealing his most famous tune.

That's why these are forums. Ppl talk a lot of sheeeit. It's mostly opinion

Did I ever tell you guys that I saw Freddie's ghost in my living room some time back? Did I also tell you that, according to a ouija board, Freddie is one of my guardians....and that he IS a God???
Thistleboy, why don't you create a new post about your experience? Even if it is a joke? Would love to hear it...

let's all be NICE to each other....I STILL think Freddie is haunting me. HOW many times, like this morning, when I'm feeling a little down, sad, blue, depressed, I think in my head, "Come on , Fred, hit me up with a song..." and when I turn on the ignition on my car, inevitably, most of the time, there's a Queen song starting FROM the beginning. Today, it was Under Pressure. I love my Freddie and if his soul wants to "haunt" me, then so be it. this has happened SO MANY times...and I love it.

that's not haunting.
that's just music playing - and it's not exactly divine intervention either, if the CD was already in the player when you put the key in the ignition.

or, alternatively, perhaps Freddie IS haunting you after all....perhaps it's HIS way of saying "if i play you one last tune, do YOU promise to stop stalking me?

it's on the RADIO , NOT my CDs playing in the car.

well in that case - you're absolutely right - Freddie is haunting you.
and i'd suggest it's for the reason i stated in my last sentence above ^^^

Who the hell knows. This has happened so many times to me , and each time it's very startling to me . I tell freddie , "freddie , you gotta ease up on me. You're really starting to scare me . " one time I was on the road . I had 140 miles to go . I was playing my best of queen CD. Even I GOT SICK of hearing queen songs . I switched to the radio . What comes on ? killer Queen . I was a bit spooked , this is just one of many incidents . Here's another . A new employee introduces herself to the department . What is her name ? Q U E E N. I'm not kidding . I almost fainted , and just like that , 2 weeks later , she quit . So label my stories as you wish . But to me , they're a bit eerie .
