The only question is, does May and Taylor have enough voice recordings of Freddie to make a full album? As we all know half of MIH was reworked versions of previously released songs. As for the tracks with MJ it would be interesting, but I am not sure if it would be a commercial success... Times have changed

1st, they've been cataloguing their archives for quite a while now, which is why in Brian's recent interview, he mentioned that maybe a "made in heaven 2" type album was a real possibility.
2nd, commercial success? Who cares? It would be successful enough to make it worth their while. And I'm sure a lot of fans would want it. Not all, but most.
I wonder if they could get their hands on the
Billy Squier tapes...a Queen Version of 'Love ist the
Hero' could be a blast. Also Lady with the Tenor
Sax is a nice tune...
But still...they should not do this! Just toying around
with the idea...

I tend to think that the reason that MIH was full of reworked versions was that the band were trying to save stuff up, given that Freddie had died and there was not going to be anything new anymore.
Now why haven't we seen anything then yet? Well, maybe because Queen have never needed much assistance to keep the band's name topical. I mean there's We Will Rock You, QE and heaps of promos to the younger generation including duets with people like Lady GaGa and ....er Dopey.
But with the Freddie Mercury movie on the horizon, maybe time had arrived to bring out the big guns. Except now that Sasha Baron Cohen has been sacked, it might put things back quite a while I think. Hope not!
No I'm not kidding, else I would have put a stupid smiley face at the end. They might release a big bag of shite, they may do some God awful remixes or re-recordings with some cringe worthy one minute wonder shitty pop act, or they might come good and do something worthwhile. Who knows, I sure as hell don't, but I'm excited they're talking about some interesting things that have the potential to be pretty good. You can carry on being sceptical, and with some of the shit they've put out in recent years I appreciate that, but I'm hopeful. If I'm wrong, hey ho

It's obvious that money's they reason for the hold up, but it isn't that obvious who's the problem.
We're looking at three songs where the writing credits and original performance are split 50/50 between Freddie and Michael, and now Brian and Roger are looking for their "fair" share of the potential profits.[/QUOTE]
I think that you make a great point. The songs were a duet between Freddie/Michael not Michael and Queen. I'm not surprised that Freddie's estate might have some objections.
I'm just curious as to why Brian and Roger are in possession of the tracks and the Freddie Mercury estate isn't?
I don't think there is anything wrong with Brian and Roger re-working the FM/MJ tracks. They would sell better under the Queen+ MJ name anyway.
As I've said before, record as much as you can! I'm all for it.
Because the Mercury estate includes Jim Beach!
How do either of you two know what the royalty agreements are with regard to these songs. And where is the proof that "Brian and Roger are looking for their fair share of the profit"? All they are doing is working to make these songs a finished item that may get released.
I'd rather have a VHS of Freddie in blackface than listen to any of the MJ tracks.
I genuinely mean that.

I have no clue as to the royalty agreements of the songs but I don't think that Brian and Roger would be reworking the songs to be labelled as Queen with Michael Jackson if it isn't their intention to receive a share of the profits.
I believe that if Freddie and/or Michael Jackson had wanted the duets to have been with Queen then that is how they would have been recorded in the first place.

It would be the same as the Jackson brothers changing/adding a few things and calling it The Jackson Brothers with Freddie Mercury.

Sorry for the triple post.
Good grief. I must be anal retentive because I can't find a way to delete my triple post. If anyone could help me out, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
It couldn't be any worse than MIH...could it?
If these songs have been written and recorded in one form or another with the original writer or writers credited they cannot be re released with a new set of writing credits. As it is writing credits that royalties are paid on, BM and RT will not make money that way.
Their maybe a percentage to be made as a producer, or co producer but that would have to be agreed with the owners of the songs, the record company and artists management. Some producers work for an agreed flat sum, others work for a percentage of the royalties paid.
William Orbit is producing these songs, or at least has worked on some aspect of them which makes a change to the usual "in house" Queen production team. Production royalties would have to be paid whether the songs were released in their original guise or as Queen+ MJ songs.
