What do you do when you have friends who don't like Queen?

"What do you do when you have friends who don't like Queen?"

I respect their decision to not like Queen and find something else to talk about instead of trying to force my own tastes down their throats.

It does bug me a bit when people say they don't like Queen when they haven't even heard anything from Greatest Hits, let alone an actual full album, but that's their problem. You can recommend Queen to them, but their listening habits are up to them. You can still be friends. Like brENsKi said, you can use your differing music tastes to have bit of a laugh on each other.

MY 2 friends and I do have a bit of a laugh at eachother. Infact, when I was hanging out with them last Thursday, they were struggling to find a gift to give for their cousin's baby for the baby shower. Yes my friends are sisters. So half-jokingly I suggested they by the kid Queen's Greatest Hits CD. The joking part was the whole thing if them not liking Queen. The serious part was coz music nowadays just about sucks and is unlistenable. Sorry if this offends anyone but I do NOT like rap, R&B, or hip-hop or ANYTHING of the sort. Kids these days need to be exposed to when music was great. Your lucky if any of this generation remembers Billy Joel who was like the coolest guy in the 70's and early 80's. Incase any of you are wondering, I'm 21. I'm often looked upon as a "unique individual" for liking artists like Bad Company, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel etc. And teaching myself all that guitar.[/QUOTE]
Okay, fair enough. Sounds like you do have a good relationship with your friends, although I would be careful asserting that all modern hip-hop, R&B etc. is so bad; it may not work for you (generally not for me, either) but it does work for some people, and Queen just isn't for everyone.

You seem like a reasonable enough person; the way you worded your original post just seemed borderline psychotic. It's very easy for people to judge you when they don't know much about you, so you always have to deal with that.

Ha ha, the last sentence was a joke (or was it...?) KIDDING!! I know humor doesn't always translate well online, but I'm sure there are other people on this board who have/had friends of theirs who didn't like Queen and were unable to grab their friends interest in them and have asked other for help in this situation like I am now.

One of the best things about Queen's diverse music is that although the majority of my friends don't like Queen,all of them like at least one track by Queen,even if they hate the band. Recently took my reluctant wife to a QuEX gig in Leicester and she loved it (even though she's a dance music fan.....Capital Fm playlist tripe). I asked her to just try and appreciate the skill involved in a band that actually play there own instruments. She was quite amazed at there art I think. I then informed her that although there was 6 musicians on the stage that night,Queen themselves managed the same feet,only better with only four musicians. She's still not a huge Queen fan,but she now realises that today's artists/pop acts have no musical skill whatsoever.

I have such friends. It's mostly my classmates, I would say. Actually, I've tried to get some of my friends into Queen - they don't really like them now but they do like a few songs or so. But there have been some interesting cases... I unintentionally made some of my friends become real Queen fans. It wasn't done on purpose, trust me. They were just watching me be a Queen fan, and eventually they just decided it for themselves. That's how they got interested in Queen. But if there's someone who really can't stand Queen and I can't do anything possible to make them love the band, I just leave it be and don't really give a shit. After all, it's up to them.

If you think Bruce Springsteen has made country music, any sensible discussion about music would end there. Learn to accept that others might not share your musical taste, but above all: educate yourself. Folk =/= country, just the same as blues =/= jazz.

What's "scream"? Is that actually a modern music genre or I didn't get another joke?

Unfortunately it's not a joke. Screamo is essentially heavy metal mixed with incoherently screamed vocals.

If these friends are into Country and Scream (screamo) and a bunch of other obscure music that nobody really knows or listens to, at least they are listening to more music than someone who only listens to one band and doesn't seem able to cope with people who don't listen to the music he does.

To call country obscure is a bit short sighted. It has a huge audience. I wonder what the other obscure music is.

Deal with it. Find something else to do/talk about.

for the american loser to hang around with Queen, well not me, i will never ever buy any future Queen product with his name on it. Yes its my choice, but i just can not stand the sight and sound of this annoying thing!

Cannot understand why BrI & Rog are wasting time with lambert when they could be sorting the next Queen album out with freddies vocals.
Theres loads of tracks going spare regardless of what may & taylor lead us all to believe, this was confirmed from Freddie.

It started off with some half baked potato head totally bemused at the thought that his friends could be into music other than Queen and because of it didn't know what to do. Then Tom's mate Gerry, different spelling I know, turns up to tell us that Adam Lambert is a sexually transmitted infection! In his Freddie crusade he seems to have become totally unaware that BM and RT have said that they have loads of old Freddie recordings.

And of course having played live once with AL this year BM and RT have used up their quotta of time so they will now never have time to work on the Freddie recordings that they have both talked about, but somehow, according to Gerry, led us to believe don't exist.
