If the ten most knowledgeable people on QZ were put to work on official releases with the vault at their disposal, they would blow away most of the archival releases that QP have put out in the last decade.

I know an excellent designer whose eye for detail is insane. Perfectionist is not the word. He is outstanding in his field :)

I have got my money set to one side, so when the new box comes out, I will be buying, definitely. Looking forward to seeing the finished product that finally does Roger, Greg and Gary's hard work justice :D

Off the top of my head for your consideration, GB: Inuliger, Sebastian, The Real Wizard, Gregsynth, Brian's Wig, and cmsdrums. Those are the first names to come to my mind based on my observations.

I wrote a book on Queen, Greg. I would love to help out in any way I could.

If GB and GT were to have been paid to listen (and watch) the finished product as well proof read the liner notes, perhaps they would have found 95%+ of the mistakes. However, their review of the finished product was probably not in the budget, and QPL/Universal probably relied on full time employees who were probably unaware that Roger previously released solo material. Also, these employees probably have more responsibility than just for "The Lot" and are probably focused on more important things (not from the previous millennium).
Of course 10 Queen experts that volunteer to work for peanuts would do infinitely better than less experienced full time Universal employees.

GB's comment has really injected life into this idea hasn't it?
I agree with what Panchgani and Wizard said; Inu - you forgot to underline graphics designer :)

You obviously got what I was saying in my post (including the beginnig "I don't know about GB's original post.. ") so Iemme just ask this - what is your opinion about cmsdrums' suggestion regarding Focus-groups in this link-
http://www.queenzone.com/forums/1362775/just-for-the-record-the-lot.aspx?page=4
Do you think that would work? Not asking if it can be implemented, cos its not in your scope to decide obviuosly. I'm just asking if you feel such a thing wold help bring out better products.
GB: It's an interesting idea. We'll have a think. The difficulty would be finding the right people; musicians, sound engineers, producers, graphic designers, proof readers, film makers, etc. They'd also ideally have appropriate knowledge of the band, trustworthiness, discretion and a keen eye for detail.
How about cmsdrums himself? Does he know anyone suitable?
This type of pre-release working team is clearly something I would be interested in, and I could certainly recommend one or two people I know that possess different skills which might also be suitable. Whilst I don't yet know any of our fellow Queenzoners personally, based on several years of interaction here there would seem to be some contributors here whose intimate knowledge of the band's output would certainly seem to be right for such a task too.

Heh. I dunno, I think Ale Solan beats me in that department, although I do share an appreciation for good cover artwork ;-)

Despite the fact that I'm with Bob on this one, I would like to point out one technicality:
On QZ, the whole thing would fall down while we were trying to assemble the ten most knowledgeable people. There'd be three polls, seventeen flame-topics, two felonious publications of personal information, a death threat or two, and, admittedly, a brilliant fatty-satire.
Assuming we'd get past that, the meetings to come up with the liner notes would quickly become marathon sessions as Sebastian goes anal over a number of important questions ("Deacon John" or "John Deacon", the authorship of every single Queen-song apart from Misfire, the exact string gauge on Crazy Little Thing Called Love and the correct name for the shade of blue of Roger's eyes), leading to several ulcers and an eventual homicide investigation focusing on the industrial food processor Sebastian was last seen at.
Greg Brooks, by now unemployed and living in an upturned dumpster near Hammersmith station, would somehow get to a computer with internet access to launch into a spam war of such dimensions that it leads to a new Geneva convention and mandatory diazepam use for anyone visiting QZ more than twice a year.
Resulting from the above stress, flame, character assassination and criminal investigations, the surviving members of the group of ten resign, leaving the task of writing the liner notes to....GT, the surviving members of Queen and an intern at QP who was unable to come up with a good excuse not to take part.
So, in the end, the only benefit would be that GB is no longer involved in any way, being held at The Hague for crimes against humanity.

It would be the same, believe me. Greg Brooks said it many times that the last word is from Brian, Roger, John(?) and Jim Beach.
You can have all the experts in the world trying to help, but if the final decisions are made by the same persons, the end result would be the same.
Remember what happened with the singles collection? - Greg Brooks had written the booklet to go with the boxes, but Jim, Brian, and Roger thought it was a good idea to release the boxes without the booklet, because of the economy at the time. Brian and Roger are musical geniuses, but they suck at creating excellent products - the Remastered 2011 Cd´s is a good example of what they think is a Deluxe edition. Just search for other artists like ABBA and compare what a deluxe edition really is.
Maybe now with Roger´s "The Lot" they will realize that some things must change, because had this happened with a Queen Box-set, they would be in more trouble due to the quantity of boxes printed.
And it wouldn´t hurt them to listen to the fans for some ideas for their products.

...Or more probably Brian has thought to himself "I was right to never allow the Queen box sets, and I definitely won't be allowing them in the future either!"
