Someone's Latin is a little rusty!
It should read: vox populi vox dei - "The voice of the people is the voice of God ...".
Either that or just plain old "Vox populi" (or Vox Pops in broadcasting terms) which literally means "voice of the people".

In either case neither can be correct if housed in a private collection!

QZ didn't allow me to use more characters for a username ! And in the end even you understood it's meaning.... So the message comes across even with less characters.

Wow, some really interesting samples here.

One thing I did notice about Tie Your Mother Down was a similarity with Brian vocal version played at the convention.

This is the link to the convention version: http://youtu.be/NkShzV5tD50

At 1.55 Brian says 'You ain't no friend of mine'.

Now listen to the Tie Your Mother Down sample at 0.06. It's also on YouTube here: http://youtu.be/uGKg2nVhh5I

It's the same line in both versions. Now, the sample uploaded has Freddie on vocals of course, but for some reason that one line of Brian's was kept.

So are you suggesting that Ghostwithasmile is getting copies direct from Greg Brooks' convention discs?
There WAS a rumour at Greg's first convention with these that he was offering to share copies with anyone who would sleep with him.
Maybe Ghostwithasmile got the job (hence the smile...)

Yeah, yeah, purile I know, but it appeals to my schoolboy sense of humour ;-)

Oh hang on!
He's changed his name to Vox Populi now....

Jam Monkey: You are correct. Well noticed and a good call!

I had to listen to the live convention version ( http://youtu.be/NkShzV5tD50 ) a few times before I heard it, but at 1:55 Brian does indeed begin to sing 'You ain't no friend of mine',
which is partially obscured by GB's "Property of Queen Productions" voice-over. It means listening for this "fingerprint" a bit harder than usual - but it is there nevertheless.

IMO: The cleanly sampled studio version (also on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGKg2nVhh5I&feature=youtu.be) has the exact same vocal as the "live" recording (between c0:07 - 0:08) and when comparing one against the other in a quick side by side acoustic bench test, it is obviously the same line in BOTH versions.

Therefore I think that the live convention broadcast of "Tie Your Mother Down (Brian's guide vocal version)" is taken directly from the studio mastered discs which aired at these events, and that the studio master (or at least TYMD) has now turned up on both QZ and YouTube!

Curiouser and curiouser!

Seems to be quite clear what he thinks of 'Fanthology' the people who 'trade' stolen intellectual property.[/QUOTE]

Well, I am sure there could be a couple of different explanations as to why the Brian's vocal is there.

Perhaps the band originally intended to leave it in the song, but it was then ditched from the final mix?

Well nice to see serious things are discussed on this board again, the past 6 months this was a playing ground. Also nice to see JM his work very welcome.

Suppose this is a live take, even if it was could they have used some backing tracks as a guide containing this line ? This version has nothing to do with the convention BM guide vocal version. The only thing in common is indeed BM his "you ain't no friend of mine" Why it is on both I cannot think of any good reason.

Thanks for sharing, Ghost, really nice stuff.

Ok, what's going on with the talking in the left channel on Spread Your Wings? The music is only on the right channel, so if you isolate the left you get a man and a women talking.

I can't make it all out, but one piece is '...getting the circulation through and manipulating the actual muscle...'

Sounds weird, and nothing to do with recording a song! How could that get on the tape in the first place?
