My way of thinking is that you always keep the output format the same as the input so you reduce any conversions artefacts and issues.
I agree with brians. Raffy, thanks for all your uploads, they really nice, but why you doesn't keep material in its original size and crop borders? MKV is good container, I agree, but MPG is better for DVD autoring and/or using in another remaster process.
Thanks for your suggestions :-) I'll consider them for the next remasters

Also, what exactly is your source material? You're profile says you are in Italy so your TV format is PAL at 25fps, yet these are clearly NTSC frame sized and 30fps.

Well, the MPEG2 codec is outdated these days and the compression is usually noticeable. H.264 works much better with even 3X lower bitrates and you see less compression artifacts than MPEG2 with 8000 bitrate for example. Also, if I may ask, why exactly do you need videos to be interlaced? When you watch them, your player does deinterlacing anyway (unless you prefer watching videos with lines). But the thing is that players do deinterlacing "on the fly" which means it's lower quality deinterlace than it could be because the player is doing it real-time. But when you process a video in an editing software, you can add high quality deinterlace filter and render the video, so afterwards your player can play your new progressive video. There would be a difference in quality of smoothed horizontal interlace lines. (of course none of this would bother someone who's not a video geek :P)
I agree, the FPS should be left as original, there's no point in changing it. But as far as I'm aware the Innuendo EPK source is only available in NTSC isn't it? What's it to do with his TV format? In this case it doesn't matter. I live in Europe as well, but if the source is NTSC I will edit it in NTSC.
As for Raffy's video. I downloaded the Innuendo EPK and there are still some sort of lines. Raffy, did you not deinterlace it or was it some weird deinterlacer? If you intended on leaving the lines, I'd say you should've used MPEG2 format as Brians Wig mentioned.
Also, keeping the output the same codec as the input won't protect the video from artifacts. It is to do with the type of compression you decide to use and bitrate. The compression will always be there if you re-encode a video, no matter what output you choose. But we can affect how noticeable the compression is gonna be. As I already mentioned the best for compression out there yet is H.264, it can provide excellent results with 2000-3000 bitrate. Raffy used it for these videos, which is good if he didn't intend to make them for a DVD. Purpose of these videos is to be watched on a computer. If Raffy decided to make them for a DVD he'd make them MPEG2.
My 2 cents. Hope I made some point, it's hard to explain this stuff :-)

It would kinda suck to remaster already remastered video wouldn't it? I agree about the DVD authoring though.
Why do you mind borders being cropped?

Thank you Raffy! I'm watching the dailymotion link while waiting for my torrent to finish. I have never seen this video, interesting :)
I will keep my torrent window open for a while after I finish downloading.

^ Grab Antiden's recent upload - it's miles better than what we had before.
