I've often wondered when it gets near the end of the song and they do that god awful sounding scratching or manipulating the guitar or whatever it is if that was done on purpose to purposely sound obnoxious? I've often heard the song was a response to the punk movement at the time and I know they was recording News of the World in the same studios that the Sex Pistols were recording in at the time. I've always been curious about it. I've often turned the song down or just skipped to the next track cuz I can't stand that noise...

I never quite like the song, too loud, too heavy, the sound yes irritated me as well and the abrupt ending of it. Not my favourite track.

Just my opinion of course, but being 'just 17' at the time it was released, I loved it all. I recall not getting past the first 3 tracks of the LP and just picking up the needle and starting all again. What I loved at the time and still do, was the manic ferociousness of the song. Given that reckless energy, the howling guitar solo seemed just right to me. I struggle though to recall a live rendition where Brian replicated it, although it may be out there somewhere. Good memories for me.

Get off my lawn ...

I was just 15 when I heard that arrhythmia feedback and it blew me away & I still love it. Unfortunately Brian never seems to manage more than two seconds of guitar feedback live as far as I know.

There is no such thing as "too heavy" in rock music

That is purely a matter of taste. A meaningless flood of distortion and feedback can be very heavy, but it's not necessarily great. I personally like rock music, but I f*cking HATE the volume at concerts, which is not just sufficient to shatter eardrums and vaporize buildings at 300 yards, but totally ruins the music by turning it into an undifferentiated wash of broadband noise.

1) Too. Not to.
2) It's debatable at the least to call SHA metal.
3) TYMD is completely mainstream rock.
4) Going apeshit on someone for disliking a song is utterly pathetic.

It's ok thomas. Thanks. I like TYMD by the way. But this is the way QZ has become.

QZ might've become like this, but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop calling crap crap.

TYMD seems to be the one Queen-song hardly anyone who isn't a fan knows, but almost everyone enjoys.

I actually prefer the song live (the live version from Paris 79 on the News of the world 2011 remaster is epic) for 2 reasons. One, because of the distorted guitar on the album version and 2, because I don't like the vocals on the album track. Still can't decide who sings it, Roger or Freddie or both in a distorted mix?
