No it is not feedback I gues. Here is a sample of a version of SHA in double mono. So if you swap to full either full left or full right channel you can only here the screeching noise.

When I captured this version I noticed there were 2 layers : the left and right channel and they were quite different.

So the first sample is the LEFt channel, it begins with fm his vocals then it will be silent for about 20 seconds then the dentist drilling will begin ;-)

The other file is the same capture (timeline) but then only the right channel !

To me it sounds like wheel on a fishing pole, or a bad rusty fence closing. What do you think ?

I TOTALLY understand and agree with ThomasQuinn32989 about the sound level at bunches of concerts. It infuriates me and I consider it VERY immoral. I think managers of the places need to be addressed about it and take control of these situations...and NO I am NOT joking. With THAT said I think that Queen did a very good job when I saw them with Paul Rodgers in 2006 with their volume level.

With all of THAT said...Jesus H.W. Christ "Sheer Heart Attack" is fucking MINDBLOWING including the screeching!!! God damn I love that shit!!!

I'm listening right now. Fascinating theory but then again, your stories and information are always worth reading.

I never said I don't like the song, I do. I do say that you went apeshit over someone not liking it, and your post and my opinion on that subject still stand.

I adore this fucking song. It is maniac! It is at the super speed of lots distorted sounds. Every one just has different taste for each Queen song. Just that!
o.k.

The snare sounds weak in this song. A pity, because on the other songs the drums are excellent.

Wouldn't you say that it is more "thrash" than "punk" though musically?

I've often wondered when it gets near the end of the song and they do that god awful sounding scratching or manipulating the guitar or whatever it is if that was done on purpose to purposely sound obnoxious? I've often heard the song was a response to the punk movement at the time and I know they was recording News of the World in the same studios that the Sex Pistols were recording in at the time. I've always been curious about it. I've often turned the song down or just skipped to the next track cuz I can't stand that noise...[/QUOTE]

Believe it or not but it is one of my favourite guitar solos ever. So ridiculously over the top but inventive at the same time. Quite unexpected too, even from Queen (which is why I love them, I guess). I sure would like to hear some insights from Roger and/or Brian as to how they came up with it. Or maybe the idea came from Freddie... :)

Not sure why so many people consider this to be punk. It's much closer to heavy metal than to punk

I first heard this song in 1985 when I was about 8 and it became my favourite and still is to this day. One of the few songs that I can play to people and they are staggered that it's queen and more often than not will admit a few weeks later that they downloaded for themselves :)

Also, if you get a cheap mic and plug it into your h ifi and wave in front of the speakers with it turned right up you'll get this sound. It's not 'live' or 'guitar' feedback.

Well "screeching" last time I checked isn't music. But it's all good, to each there own. I just go to the next track when it gets to that part or turn down the volume
