Thanks Jam Monkey these are always a great read and something to be archived.
Flash is a great album for what it was, better than HS imho.

I didn't get this album until 1998, having been a Queen fan for 6 years having had all other studio albums by now. Didn't think much of it at the time.
With the excuse of having bought the 2011 Deluxe Edition I listened to it once again and I enjoyed it a lot. It is a Soundtrack, after all, but it is certainly a better soundtrack than A Kind of Magic is a proper album. They got it right the first time.
You have recurrent themes and motifs. After a few listens, the themes stick in your head. I found myself humming melodies that I didn't even know which track they came from. Is it Ming's Theme, The Kiss, the Love Theme, Battle Theme, Vulcan, etc. Songs kinda blend together but, once you pay attention, the different themes and motifs are there and they are almost like movie characters in a way.

"Magic Is Loose" is a Roger Taylor song that ended up on his first solo album "Fun In Space." Would make sense if this might have been demoed during the Game / FG sessions, some of that album's songs sound like they originated from those sessions or were at least inspired by them.[/QUOTE]
Indeed. We can be pretty certain that plenty of Roger solo songs were Queen rejects.
This is pretty common, really. Roger Daltrey refused to sing Rough Boys, so it ended up being a Pete Townshend solo song.

And ironically Daltrey ended up singing Rough Boys live with The Who!!
If you listen to Roger's recent podcast interviews on the Queen Podcast series he states that none of the Fun In Space tracks were originally slated for Queen, and they were all specifically penned and recorded solely for his debut solo album.
You can either believe that, or take the view that his memory may not be quite 100%.....
