Best Queen song as a first dance in a wedding

Wonder if you guys can help us please.

My partner and I are massive Queen fans (admittedly he is a much bigger fan than I) so we have planned to put Queen songs throughout our ceremony. (Been told to get about 14 songs together and 10 are Queen songs, and I'm walking down the aisle to "Born to Love You" Made in heaven version)

We also love teasing people and having fun so what we want to do is at the reception when everyone thinks we're doing the first dance it starts off with a plausible Queen song that has either a guitar solo quite soon into the song or you can clearly hear the guitar (you'll understand why in a second).

How we want it to run:

We start off doing a proper slow dance, in each others arms, usual thing you'd expect. Hubby lets me go and starts to air guitar to which point I do something to indicate "no way in hell are you doing that right now" then go over to the DJ looking annoyed, DJ turns on the macarena song, force all of our guests to do the macarena then once that finishes go back to the last 30 seconds of the Queen song and finish the slow dance.

Sounds a bit mad I know but it'll be hilarious, no one would expect the macarena bit but everyone will expect us to do our first dance to a Queen song.

Any advice and recommendations are welcome - hubby is thinking "Want To Break Free" but I'm umming and arring as I dont think it'll work too well but I can't think of any others that'll work.

Thanks everyone :)

I honestly wouldn't pick Queen songs. They weren't exactly the love/marriage type of songwriters. There are tens of thousands of wedding appropriate songs to choose from, and other than the one you already mentioned, I think the Queen well is dry.

That's seriously my best answer.

Good luck !

Thanks The Real Wizard,

I understand where you're coming from but Queen is us.

When we met the first conversation we had was about Queen, We'd been dragged out by his sister (my work colleague) and she left us to the side not talking to us. We spent about an hour or 2 with awkward "so what do you do?" "oh that's nice" things then he asked me if I liked Queen and that was it we hit it off and never looked back. Our first "dance" was Queen, my first memory is of hearing Rhapsody when I was a young, it was Queen that has been there through all our break-ups/dark moments/happy times everything. Not having Queen, as corny as it sounds, is like not having us at the wedding as it's what we love. We're not lovey dovey, appropriate or romantic which is why they're perfect for us. I mean we're purposfully putting scandal into the wedding can't get more inappropriate than that! lol xxx

ok. in that case structure the whole event.

at the church - pre-ceremony (ie before Bride arrives)
DEAD ON TIME

as bride walks down isle
THE MARCH OF THE BLACK QUEEN

exiting the church together
SEE WHAT A FOOL I'VE BEEN

first dance
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

first night of honeymoon
COMING SOON
go deo na hÉireann The best QZ epoch: BG17-00 (Before Gerry 1996-2013)

tend to agree with the wizard....

BUT!

If you have to use Queen, I'd recommend Bijou! Play it from when the vocals start. do your dance, then the air guitar after that.

Its an awkward fit, as there's a gap of about 10 seconds between the vocals and the guitar kicking back in. but its the only appropriate Queen song i can think of off the top of my head :)

Good luck with the big day :)

My wife and I walked into our reception to You're My Best Friend. Then again, she walked down the aisle to the Muppets' 'Somebody's Getting Married', and we had our rings delivered to us on a "Regular Show" RC car, so it wasn't really a typical wedding.

First thing that came to mind was THE MILLIONAIRES WALTZ. ... 3/4 .... can't argue with that for the situation

Either that or scare everybody with BODY LANGUAGE

You're also completely ignoring the incredible WEDDING MARCH from FLASH GORDON
"Come tonight! Come see the Overbite! Come to Ogre Battle, FIGHT!"

Either "I Was Born To Love You" or "You Take My Breath Away"

Queen songs aren't "regular" wedding songs, but if you don't want a regular wedding song, then go with Queen!

Or go wild and dance to "The End" by the Doors or "Desolation Row" by Bob Dylan. Just to freak people out.
Any way the wind blows...

You're My Best Friend and Crazy Little Thing Called Love are the only wedding appropriate songs by Queen.... really... think of it in the context of a wedding...lyrics, etc... I Want To Break Free is not wedding appropriate... it's wedding inappropriate... lyrics are important... consider Two Hearts by Phil Collins...and Time To Say Goodbye... both of these are CLASSIC wedding songs... CLASSIC....

Two Hearts... living in just one mind.... no, lol... it's about someone that was dumped or left a relationship and can't get over it... it's so wrong
and Time to Say Goodbye... in italian... translates to Time To Say Goodbye... so it really couldn't be more inappropriate.

People should NOT play those songs at weddings.

To answer "vixen"... use Crazy Little Thing Called Love... but start the song closer to Brian's solo. that way you get some song and some air guitar before transitioning to Macarena...or maybe consider YMCA... might be a little funnier and probably a better transition since you're going from a treble-driven song to a bass-driven song.

You can use The Wedding March - Marriage Of Dale And Ming - Crash Dive On Mingo City and The Hero. Then fade The Hero into any song you like.

You can do something like enter with your best friend and marry with him, and keeping the movie's line, your real man (Flash?) will marry with you, fighting against your evil friend (and use the lights according to the moment).
If you hear all that songs together, you will know what I mean. It's a bit complicated my explanation. But that will be LEGENDARY!

Also, you can always record the wedding and share that with us.

And if your boyfriend and you want this, that would be thanks to a Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Oh, and also Queen.
Don't forget my collection of demos and outtakes: http://goo.gl/uQARhn PM me if you want any [leaked] multitrack. Ya se ven los tigres en la lluvia.

"You Take My Breath Away"

It's kind of in free time for the main body of the song, though, and just really melancholy :P

"Loser in the End"

As you can see on this website everyone likes all stuff from Queen II !

So play Loser in the End

Keep passing the open windows , don't loose your head

And of course facing the priest, holding the hand of your bride to be "There Must Be More To Life Than This" would be a great weapon of choiche to insult your in laws.
