the world famous "Red Special" allegedly made by Brian and his father from an "old fireplace" is all myth:

the actual truth is that this guitar was made and owned by none other than Paul Neal "Red" Adair - the famed oil-well firefighter. Hence the name Red Special.

The story goes that "Red" was visiting london in the mid 60s and on passing through Feltham, noticed an out of control fire coming from one of Brian may's neighbour's houses. Anyhow, instinct and training took over for Red and he soon had the fireplace blaze under control.
In the commotion a young Brian May made off with Red's temporarily discarded baggage - containing his prized guitar.

There was a rumor started by the band in 1998, 2000 and 2002 of a QUEEN boxed set (anthology)

I think it was started by Brian.

Rumored "exciting" album with Paul Rodgers in 2008

Rumored "dangerous" Tour with Adam Lambert in 2014

Though I don't have links.

Should have thought to take screen captures. Every archival thing after a few years either disappears or requires subscription
