I wont go as far as label it as crap, but I just dont have any feeling from many of his songs. They sound so average to me!
There are a few songs that I enjoy (laugh or cry, smile and a few others) but most of the time I listen to it Im like "Wait, is this music from the amazing Roger Taylor?"

I like lots of Rogers solo stuff ,Magic is loose,Airheads,Get crazy,My Country,Strange Frontier,No more fun etc.Rogers solo stuff was miles ahead of Freddies, who made two solo albums the first one was gay disco ,which is fine if thats your bag..and then Barcolona which was not my cup of tea but i know some really liked it.I have probably played it less than ten times.Roger is a Rocker and thats what i like.

Queen were really a four-piece band and that is greatly underlined by the fact that basically all their solo work was subpar. Without the other members, the quality was instantly gone. If you cull together the best songs from Roger's four solo albums you'll get one decent disc but that's it; none of the original albums stands on its own. Easily the most interesting solo album was Barcelona which was Freddie expanding his horizons in a way he couldn't have done with Queen.
I kind of wish they hadn't started any solo careers before Freddie's death because all that stuff (except for Barcelona) should have been given to the band and for Freddie to sing. The good songs would have made Queen's patchy 80s' albums stronger and the weaker songs should have been put to singles B-sides to have some extra non-album tracks for the hardcore fans.

Roger's solo albums are good, with some moments of real feeling, emotion etc., and some interesting vocal and musical ideas. Overall though,I would agree if you picked the best tracks from his solo career it would make one good album (The Cross was a good idea, badly implemented. They made some very poor pub rock, with only a few songs rising to a higher level). Mr Bad Guy has some good tracks like Livin on my Own, although it has badly dated now with that awful 80s synth-disco sound. Barcelona is awesome, if a bit of acquired taste. Brian probably has the best solo career with an actual hit (Driven By You) and some good songs. Back to the Light was let down by some poor vocals at times (Love Token... ew!) and the truly awful, maudlin melodrama of Too Much Love Will Kill You, but his vocals were much much better on Another World, which is probably the best thing anyone connected to Queen has released since Fred's death (and I include Made in Heaven in that).

Who cares...he's horrible in solo...in fact Brian and him are horrible in solo. Only Freddie was able to get something going in his solo career. It makes me laugh that just because they were members of Queen (and I insist on were because Queen doesn't exist anymore), people should follow automatically their solo careers even if it's pure shit. Ludicrous. I prefer porn to what they do in solo.[/QUOTE]
Really?
I'd rather listen to any of Rogers solo albums than Mr Bad Guy.

Good for you. Mr. Bad wasn't a bad album and Barcelona is a good one.

honestly, none of their solo work has stood the test of time for me. Roger has only a handful of songs I still like. Brian's solo stuff is patchy. some good songs were ruined by his weak vocals. Freddie ruined Mr. Bad Guy with bad production and weak musicians behind him. I do like some stuff from Brian, last horizon and resurrection and the song another world. Freddie had some moments with the 3 cover songs, In My Defense, Great Pretender, And of course the best album Freddie sang on in the 80s, Barcelona. Barcelona made up for The short comings of Mr. Bad Guy for me. A true masterpiece. I just wish it had more songs on it. Overall, the best of Freddie solo wins it for me.

For me [Fun In Space 4 stars] [Strange Frontier 4 stars] [Happiness 3 stars] [Electric Fire 4 stars] [The Lot 5 stars] [Best of 3 stars]. I remember when Fun In Space came out and the music press at that time hated Queen ,Fun In Space got some good reviews from Record Mirror and even Sounds gave it a good revew.I think about that time Sounds or Record Mirror ran the headline is Freddie Mercury a Pratt !! So for any of the band members to get any praise at that time was unusual.

John's solo stuff is the best if you ask me. His "Retired" album is a classic.
