Fight Club by Roger Taylor, on par with anything after The Wall exclusive Floydian riff
Now, Journey "Revelation" power ballad "What I Needed" featuring Arnel Pineda is gracing well past Adam Lambert

I think by the end of the Cosmos tour BM and RT were looking and sounding like a high profile Paul Rodgers backing band with PR having his own back stage area and being fairly non communicative with BM and RT. The added fact that Jeff Scott Soto was on call at a number of venues maybe shows how hard PR was to work with.

Indeed. In 2005 the ratio of Queen to Rodgers tunes was about 2:1, but by 2008 there were only 3 Free/BadCo tunes per night.
But was Paul really that hard to work with? Or was he just butting heads with Bri and Rog with no fault on either side? Paul likes a rotating setlist and generally doesn't like being too comfortable for too long, while Bri and Rog are creatures of habit and like a touring band to be a well-oiled machine that rigidly plans virtually every move with a goal of perfection every night, like theatre. With rare exceptions, it's been that way for them since 1973. The two differing philosophies were bound to explode.
The JSS tidbit sure is interesting. Can you elaborate on that?

Pearl Jam anyone? Eddie Vedder solo or with PJ has been big and viable and young to this day here in the USA, the crowd of intensity unlike Queen but as rowdy and happy to be with the band at the Gorge 2008, 3 show MP3 CD set downloaded over the last 72 hours and ready for sampling via williamkeithmahler@gmail.com Forget Lambert & Perry, it would be interesting to hear Vedder with May & Taylor for a live net gig no? Mid range originals that are a staple with no repeativeness despite the lack of Mercury's soprano and harmonies, just pure grit and blues with nothing more than Queen's form of 1974 or earlier, close to Smile with a better but equally as talented as Tim Staffel's "April Lady" only with Brian at lead?
THIS IS NOT FOR YOU

A very valid point. Yes BM and RT do seem to function better in a well rehearsed situation.
With regard to Paul Rodgers, he works better as a band leader rather than a band member. During the Q+PR tours there were two defined camps back stage. At the London shows, where traditionally the UK music business gather PR and his management and "guests" kept themselves separate from "Queen".
There were tensions and it got to the point where it was thought that PR may walk, some say that he was suffering throat problems though it never seemed likely listening to him. Because of this JSS was lurking backstage just in case.
BM actually briefly pointed towards these problems on his website when he said they decided to call it a day in South America to preserve their friendship.

Is it me or was Roger rather fat around that period?

I think the highlights were Reaching Out/Tie Your Mother Down, 39, Hammer To Fall, All RIght Now, Bohemian Rhapsody; but I Want It All was the best of the album for me.
I was very happy with their collaboration and enjoyed Cosmos Rocks album too much. I wish they hadn't parted ways and made another studio album.
