Wasn't it played only as an intro to Bohemian Rhapsody at some point during the Magic Tour ?
Nope. But it was a couple times in 1982.

Perhaps, but then again he sang Love of My Life every show from late 1977 to 1986, and it's not like he would've still been feeling the pain of separating with Mary by the end of that.

EDIT: Point is, you don't have to still emotionally identify with it for it to be worth playing.
I dunno - ask Billy Joel why he doesn't play She's Got a Way anymore.

Some people can go through the motions but others can't. Case by case basis, person to person, song to song.

Where his mind was in 86 only he knows, but where his mind was in 91 everyone knows (unless they're in extreme denial). Look who got his house.

Queen always discarded songs every tour, like "Father to Son" got the chop after a certain amount of time and "Sweet Lady"
so not surprised " Somebody to Love" got booted off the set list!
They made way for the fresh sounds, "Friends will be Friends" etc.............

Friends Will Be Friends... that might just be the least fresh sounding song in Queens entire catalogue.

"Friends" was very fresh on the Magic tour in 86 and a refreshing change to "somebody to love" i may add!

Bob, I wish Billy Joel would play She's Got A Way. He's in a proper "deep cuts" mood these days, and still won't play it.

Anyway...back on topic: I agree that STL had lost it's edge by the end of The Works tour, and that's all. Nothing to do with how it would fit.

He couldn't sing it anymore, and like Killer Queen, he probably got bored of it.

Well if they would perform it at the beginning of the show, e. g. the Leiden gig then he could pull it off. It would be nice hear how would the band re-arrange it for the Magic Tour.
I'm curious if it was rehearsed before one of the Magic shows or if it was mentioned when they were making the set-list for the tour.

I'd say it didn't even make the short list.

What I'd like to know is what 10-15 other songs were rehearsed for the Works tour and dropped.

Especially its place in the setlist: between WWRY and WATC.

The Wembley version is really nice because of the audience participation.

For once I can agree with you on something (stop the presses!)

Except for at least one of the first few, RARE full performances where they had no idea when to end the song! That was a mess.

yes audience participation is something Queen and its audiences love, whether its Radio ga ga or love of my life
its brilliant to see band and audience in unison.

By the way I think Freddie could have sang somebody to love quite easily on the magic tour. It strikes me as strange that on some parts of the Wembley concert he was sounding forced and tired, but when they did Impromptu, he sounded fantastic.

That's because his falsetto was always in fantastic shape, even on his worst gigs.

True that...........some of my favorite Queen bootlegs to listen to are ones where you can really hear that the audience is into it..........as in Leeds 82.......or actually BEING in an audience like that is quite an experience...............(like in both "Queen+" shows I saw!)

One thing that I always loved, too...........when listening to a live album of someone..............the band or artist plays just a few notes of a hit song and the crowd ERUPTS...........(like when Freddie sings "can..." at the start of Somebody To Love!)........I was always kinda envious of that..............its like.........thats power........lol
