I must admit, Unplugged was never my bag. The concert I always wanted to see was with a full Orchestra, now that would have been awesome.!

I like the STP & Pearl Jam unplugged, and that sort of thing, as I think their songs really lend themselves to that sort of treatment. But I've just never fancied the notion where Queen are concerned.

It's hard to explain, but it just feels like so many of the best Queen songs were conceived to fit Queen's huge stage presence, and turning them into acoustic tracks might suck the life and soul right out of them, that's just a personal prejudice though, it probably isn't true.

Also I just can't imagine Freddie sitting on a stool, singing Queen tracks for a whole gig, seems like he might go out of his mind.

I always felt full orchestra would have been the way to go, and if they do the James bond theme with David Arnold, which is being hinted in the press, could happen !

I can imagine it with an older Freddie. Could have been very interesting.

agreed. Freddie with a full orchestra, backed with a full choir... easily his thing. Big fucking smile on his face - a shit eating grin - thinking "now, maybe this is a little too excessive?".

Freddie on a stool, probably not... he'd be giving Mick a run for his money.

Maybe not back in the day. But now, had Freddie lived, he could have developed in any number of directions. As he matured , and Id say hed have calmed his stage act down enough to do an unplugged of some sort

There was actually a plan to do an unplugged show in New York for either MTV or VH1 with guest singers, back in 2001. The Doors had recently done it, and it was very well received. Here's how I know this and how I will never forget it...

My sister worked in the music biz as a publicist for many years, first in LA, then NY. Her daughter was born in Sep 1995, and I went out to NY to visit every year for my niece's birthday. In 2001, my sis told me about the planned Queen Unplugged show, to be held in NY on Sep 9, 2001. As my niece's b-day was on the 4th, I was planning on staying the extra 5 days out there, so I could go to the show. She was confident, as she had contacts in the biz, that she could get me in to the taping.

At some point 2-3 months before it was to happen, it was postponed indefinitely. I have no word on why, perhaps the guest singers they wanted weren't available/interested, who knows. So I went out to NY for my usual visit, took a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and shot video of the World Trade Towers with my new Hi8 camcorder. I did not go up them that day, as I had already done that once. I flew back to LA on Sep 5 or 6. We all know what happened in NY on Sep 11, 2001.

Had the Queen show happened as planned, I would have most likely flown back on Sep 10. I haven't looked at the video I shot since that day.

I would too. I never heard any names floated back at the time, that I can remember. It would have been an interesting project, it's a shame they dropped it.
