Nirvana Unplugged is a classic! Imagine what Queen could've done ... with Freddie of course.

That Queen show in New York in 2001 was even advertised in the fan club magazine at the time, with a promise of more details and a ticket offer to come.

There was actually a plan to do an unplugged show in New York for either MTV or VH1 with guest singers, back in 2001. The Doors had recently done it, and it was very well received. Here's how I know this and how I will never forget it...
My sister worked in the music biz as a publicist for many years, first in LA, then NY. Her daughter was born in Sep 1995, and I went out to NY to visit every year for my niece's birthday. In 2001, my sis told me about the planned Queen Unplugged show, to be held in NY on Sep 9, 2001. As my niece's b-day was on the 4th, I was planning on staying the extra 5 days out there, so I could go to the show. She was confident, as she had contacts in the biz, that she could get me in to the taping.
At some point 2-3 months before it was to happen, it was postponed indefinitely. I have no word on why, perhaps the guest singers they wanted weren't available/interested, who knows. So I went out to NY for my usual visit, took a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and shot video of the World Trade Towers with my new Hi8 camcorder. I did not go up them that day, as I had already done that once. I flew back to LA on Sep 5 or 6. We all know what happened in NY on Sep 11, 2001.
Had the Queen show happened as planned, I would have most likely flown back on Sep 10. I haven't looked at the video I shot since that day.[/QUOTE]
Great stuff there, Steve. I had always thought the 'Unplugged' bit was scheduled for later in the month, and then just totally dropped due to what happened that one particular day.

I can imagine the band doing a few one-off concerts as a farewell tour in '89, and deciding to do them unplugged to give Freddie a bit of break. And the setlist would be a mix of live favourites, the odd B-side for the die-hards, and the absolute greatest hits, since it's a farewell tour. Here's the list in my head:
The Miracle (up to the bridge) Crazy Little Thing Killer Queen Under Pressure TMLWKY Is This World We Created? Hammer to Fall (slow style, like Brian's '98 tour) Play the Game '39 (Brian on vocals) Bo Rhap (solo only) WWTLF Las Palabras My Life Has Been Saved The Miracle (reprise) Love of My Life We Are the Champions

I can imagine the show back in 2001:
Brian and Roger calling the boys of Five to do a live version of WWRY, and desperately trying to think what are songs they could possibly perform..?
It certainly made the world a better place when THAT show failed to happen.

You could say that queen at the beep/bbc and all bbc sessions in general are the closest thing to queen unplugging. Or haha the acoustic performances they did live. The guitar solo for example is very raw on son and daughter on the beep
