Greg Brooks - Is his archiving work now done? Someone asked here...
Short answer: No. Not yet.
Long answer: Clearly the recent Live at the Rainbow '74 products prove conclusively, even to the moaniest of the moaning Moanzone moaners here, that the work goes on. And long may it continue if recent product is anything to judge by.
I spent a year of my life working on those boxes with our small but dedicated team, and like every other fan I've spoken to about them, since they emerged in all their purple glory, I think they are amazing.
Rather like the actual concerts themselves, those products (particularly the 4-LP and deluxe boxes) are utterly stunning, and elegant, over-the-top, and worth waiting for, on various levels. I witnessed my friend Jim Jenkins actually moved to tears by the November concert when he saw this latest rendition on screen for the first time, earlier this year. I for one was, and remain, extremely proud of these things, and being part of them.
Some of the more observant among you will have noticed there was a significant archive element to the boxes, and extensive sleeve notes and photographic research, etc. Those archive and research type elements are part of an Archivist's job. They didn't magically appear one day. There are some very lovely pieces of memorabilia in the box for you guys to look at too; rare Queen treasures to touch, feel, experience. And many of you will never have seen or held such things before - this will have been a first. We brought these stunning little details (like Brian's original 1974 tour Itinerary and promo sticker, and his mum's tickets and dad's hand-drawn map) right to your fingertips for the first time. That's a good thing isn't it!?
Every single review I read (be it from a professional journo, or a fan) was positive and flattering. And now there are more projects of this type on the radar and they too will require extensive archival research on various levels. That's a good thing too, isn't it!? Or should we not bother!
The next stunning Queen concert gem is being considered carefully right now. This week, we are in the archive again looking into precisely what we have to offer you guys next, and that includes which items of memorabilia are the most interesting and rare. It will be something exciting and on a par with 'Live At The Rainbow '74'. PLUS, there are several other projects in the pipeline that fans like you and me have been waiting decades to have and enjoy. They are coming!!
A lot of this stuff begins… where?…. in the archive which the band carefully and meticulously gathered, and which has all been sorted and logged and scrutinised… and not by fairies or fairy kings.
Thus, I conclude Greg Brooks' archiving work is NOT yet done. Not by a long way.

But I have a question that everyone is asking: that stunning Queen concert gem that is being considered carefully right now, is from the 70s? It will be released because of his anniversary?
Maybe, next year? Given that Rainbow spent one year of your life.
Anyway, I'm very happy to hear this things! I hope a lot of projects gets released, and maybe some Anthology. But that's sand of another sandbox (LOL).

i'm thinking GB has an idea what's next and is so giddy, he had to post that! lol - he can't tell us what it is... he's not ready to lose his job yet!
Thanks for teasing us! at least we know there's something worth waiting for.
And if you happen to pop back in here - fantastic fucking job on the 4LP vinyl! More of those please.
And if it's worth anything --> i think many of us would be very happy with an all anaolgue re-release of every queen LP..on vinyl...in non-remastered form while waiting... Beatles Mono Box LP set is the reference point. We will pay.

Cool. That is exciting (Rainbow is indeed sublime but Queen Forever was disappointing to the extreme and a waste of a lost classic song). Thanks GB for the tease. :)

Are we all supposed to start chanting Houston '77? Because I think that's what we should all start chanting. Otherwise we'd gladly take hammersmith '75 or Earls Court '77 which are in all likelihood next in line.

Thanks a lot for this high class product from the QPL. Let's hope for more live and studio releases of the same level in the future.
It'll be great to find some more detailed technical/historical information in the sets about the recordings in the future.
I mean, for example it'll be interesing for fans/collectors to know which song from which show in November '74 was used in the final product. And why 1st encore from March '74 show wasn't included.

If you are reading Greg, The Rainbow project is an absolute gem indeed and all of us are so appreciative of all your hard work. Like so many other fans, I have been waiting years for such a grande release. To hear more work is being done on future releases is wondrous news. So hope it's Earl's Court or Houston or maybe even Hammersmith 1979. Can't imagine it would be Hyde Park 76 as it isn't complete..........or is it?!

Tips for "perfect" releases
- BBC boxset which will include all remastered sessions, the Golders Green Hippodrome performance, the Christmas 75 performance (complete) and the Live Aid performance on CD, and the XMas 75 show, the Live Aid show, all TOTP performances and as much of the Bob Harris footage as possible on DVD and/or upscaled BD
- Hammersmith Odeon 75 + 79 CD/DVD/BD releases
- Hyde Park 76 including all pre-show footage you have, maybe even the opening acts
- Earls Court 77 - 2 separate nights, don't combine them into one - CD+DVD
- Houston 77 - a merge of a new HD scan of the Bob Harris footage and an upscale of the old NTSC VHS footage, with all the backstage footage we've seen in various documentaries as bonus stuff
- a Live Killers box - you mentioned years ago you have several incomplete soundboard recordings of various LK shows, couple them with all the incomplete TV footage and you have again a perfect release
- Knebworth Park 86 - combine the DoRo footage with the colour-corrected audience footage (if necessary), add all DoRo documentary/backstage footage and sync it with the complete soundboard audio, and put it in a book with the hundreds of photos which are available
- a promo video Bluray boxset - containing every existing version of every single video which was shot from Queen between 1973 and 2014, of course all in HD, plus add all outtakes/behind the scenes footage
If anybody "important" reads this - anything from the list would be a bestseller

Greg,
Thank you for The Rainbow '74 - it is excellent.
Please continue to press for studio box set retrospectives that are of as high a quality as this purple headed monster.
