Queen Glasgow Apollo UK 23 Nov 1973 Unknown recording equipment I belive this show has had a limited circulation It was Recorded by Janice Ranking Unfortunately the tape was stopped between tracks so it starts into the intros The recording was recorded on a HITACHI C90 tape
Setlist 1) Father To Son 2) Ogre Battle 3) Hangman 4) Keep Yourself Alive 5) Liar 6) Jailhouse Rock / Shake Rattle and Roll / Stupid Cupid / Jailhouse Rock reprise 7) Big Spender / I'm A Man
if anyone knows the name of the track please let me know I would say its a fair to good recording from the Apollo I had the great fortune to be at this gig
Hey Mark the exact tracklist is
1) Father To Son
2) Ogre Battle
3) Hangman
4) Keep Yourself Alive
5) Liar
6) Jailhouse Rock / Shake Rattle and Roll / Stupid Cupid / Jailhouse Rock reprise
7) Big Spender / I'm A Man
The recording was recorded on a HITACHI C90 tape, side 1 is Queen, side 2 is Mott The Hoople
Also for some reason there are 2 different transfers of the same tape circulating, and one of them has some 30 seconds more - less of the tape is cut

Thanks for the info Peter, I have added it to the op.
Hopefully the full tape will surface too.

Janice was the only one known to record it, so it's as complete as you're likely to hear it.
The reason it's cut in between songs is that she was trying to save the tape for Mott The Hoople, who she was actually there to see. When she heard the reaction Queen got, she started taping - otherwise, there'd have been no document of it at all.
There are two versions circulating, as far as I know - the rough transfer from her tape, and my master, where I tried to edit out the nasty clicks (created by pausing the tape between songs) heard on her original. This will likely be the one that's 30 seconds shorter - you're not actually "missing" anything with the omission of those seconds (just the gargling and clicking of tape). If I'm wrong there. then there are more than 2 versions circulating.
I prefer my edit, although I'm no pro at it. It sounds a little cleaner.

Thanks for the info, I have the 2 versions but I never noticed any real difference between those two except the length.

No worries Peter :)
For what it's worth, she also recorded the Stirling Uni show - however the tape is severely damaged and likely in need of baking. There's been nothing done with it yet - I think it needs to be professionally looked at, but there's no guarantee it can be saved. I've heard a few seconds of it, but it was really sticky and we didn't want it damaged further.

Just had a check of the link here - it's my edit lol.
Because she was pausing between tracks, she was missing the opening few seconds of the next song - so I did a cross-fade on all tracks to take all that out.

So the tips for saving the tape didn't get to her? Pity, that's one of the shows which would need to be historically preserved

I really hope it can be saved. It's annoying to know that it has been recorded, but might not see the light of day (although I guess we should be used to that as Queen fans lol).

Cheers Greg. I just feel bad that I didn't do the share myself - I was asked not to, for the time being.
I'm just glad it's "out" now :)

This is one of the best shows from the 1973-1974 era. Shame it's incomplete - but there's so many good moments on this show!
