What's a story about the band in the studio or on the road that sticks out in your mind and fascinates you? For example mine is how the crew were mistreated in Monterey in 1981

About the show in Monterrey: AFAIK the story behind the food is fake, or so Ive been told by a guy from the local staff but the story about the show being bad organized was true.
My favorite story about the show in Monterrey is a popular story that I dont know if it was true, but Ive been told by the people who were there that it is:
Someone from the audience got one of Roger's drumsticks, he was chased by lots of people who were trying to steal it!
There's another story, I dont know if its real cause it always appears on magazines and newspapers but I havent seen a note in any news paper from that time about it, also I havent met any of the supposed victims. The story is about a few rows falling apart because of the overbooking, causing some people to be taken to the hospital, the story says that the full band went to the hospital to visit the people who got injuries.

Totally different story from the above, but I always found it kinda funny that Tim Staffell made the the alien-guy-thing that was used on Roger's first solo album's cover.......and neither of them knew till years later!

Freddie being in bad mood or drunk in New Zealand or Australia 1985. I think Roger told this on DOOL doc. Freddie was apparently not singing at all at some point and was banging his head on the piano. My memory is hazy, I might have written some bollocks :) Anyone care to correct me?

That was also when Tony Hadley came on for Jailhouse Rock and forgot the words right?

Also theres the often repeated tale of Queen playing with Aerosmith and arguing about who would go on first while Brian got smashed with Joe Perry :D

............the one about Freddie clambering out of the beat up transit van , after travelling all night from London to Barnsley?, or some other Yorkshire mining town, just as the miners were on their way to their grim, early morning shift, Freddie resplendent in skintight white satin trousers, black fingernails et all, under a slate grey morning light and the miners gawking in disbelief.
What a picture.

Wow - amazing if true.
Are you sure that's Monterrey and not Puebla? The latter venue was literally falling apart, so that would make some sense.
But - considering how bad the first night in Puebla went, methinks they were keen to make a beeline out of the country ASAP after the second night.
Any chance you can clarify the details?

Of course they're going to deny that ! Who's going to admit, even 30-something years later, that they tried to poison Queen's crew?

Not one from the road but I find it fascinating that Fred early on served Bowie and fitted him for a pair of boots when he was manager of Alan Mair's boot shop in Ken Market... I didn't realise that Fred was the manager there until recently when someone told me who worked in Ken Mkt at the time.

Peaches and The Dungeon and New Orleans i.e. Brian getting himself in trouble.
By and large the band kept their playtime pretty much off the radar but I am sure there are groupies out there with tales to tell.

I grew up not far from Barnsley, and my dad worked there at a glass factory. I remember the grime, the miner's strike, power cuts etc. And yes, Freddie would have stuck out like a sore thumb in Barnsley in the 1970s.
