No Peter. That's the lineage for the second transfer using far superior cassette playback equipment and my 'new' 24/96 soundcard.
The remaster of that is better sound than the one that leaked.
As an aside, it was ME who upped the torrent on Dime and added that info (from the wrong folder). Figured I may as well get some share ratio out of it.
Ironically though my ISP is preventing me from seeding it!

THIS is the lineage for the first transfer:

Band : Queen
Venue : City Hall, Sheffield, UK
Date : November 5, 1974

Lineage : 2nd gen ? tape > WAV > 2 big FLAC files, 1 for each side > Cool Edit Pro (hiss reduction, speed correction, equalisation) > WAV > Trader's Little Helper > FLAC level 8

1. Procession (tape intro)
2. Now I'm Here
3. Ogre Battle
4. Father To Son
5. White Queen (As It Began)
6. Flick Of The Wrist
7. In The Lap Of The Gods
8. Killer Queen
9. The March Of The Black Queen
10. Bring Back That Leroy Brown

16. In The Lap Of The Gods ...revisited

18. Modern Times Rock'n'Roll
19. Jailhouse Rock
20. God Save The Queen (tape outro)

complete length : 1:18:55
sound quality : EX -

Fantastic concert in front of an audience dying to hear Liar . Although the band seems to be pretty nervous,
they deliver a great performance. There are a couple of Brian-related errors, e.g. something strange happenned
during the Ogre Battle intro (broken string ? ), he started to play Father To Son much later etc. but it's still
great. It's a very early SHA tour concert, so there are quite unique moments, for example the ending of Flick
Of The Wrist.

The way they just end Flick of the Wrist on this one was actually pretty common - I haven't counted, but I'd say the straight ending was played about just as often as the Brighton Rock ending.

Yeah I agree. Monitoring problems most likely for the cue misses?

since Fred goes off-key more often than usual here, yes that can be assumed.

Great tape though. Just a shame it had to surface this way.

They brought in the Brighton Rock ending in November 1974 (after 7 or 8 shows), and played it that was through May 1975 (the remaining 67 or 68).

Okay, firstly, I'd like to say a big thank you to David for the show. It's a shame it got out the way it did, but it's greatly appreciated nonetheless.

However, now seeing that there was another transfer, with a better quality result, can I ask why it's such a big hoo-ha that this one leaked? I'm not trying to be disrespectful with that question, but if you have a superior version, then all isn't lost, surely? Using the superior version as your release on vinyl would surely still be a worthwhile project? (and would attract the support of the folk here with more scruples than Mercuryprick12??

Or, where you planning on releasing the "leaked" version? That would surely serve no purpose, as the main principle is that you get a pressed copy for yourself too?

I see it's a second gen tape - which means that someone with a superior version again could be planning a release? I don't know the ins and outs of that side of it, so just asking: have YOU inadvertently leaked something without a go-ahead? With the utmost respect....I'm just trying to get my head around all of this :)

Either way, I think you should still go ahead with your plan. Lots of things have been freely available before, and yet become collectable when pressed. Good luck!

The better version would have been the one used for a bootleg release and the one ultimately posted here around the same time (if all had gone to plan later in the year and I'd not been usurped last week).

The generation of the tape is pure speculation. It could be a copy of the original. It could be a copy of the copy. It could BE the original.
It's certainly been kept nice and quiet amongst a load of other cassettes of Queen concerts for years. I've had it a few years myself after spending nearly 20 years looking for it (and not knowing if it even existed of course) and, as some people here will know if they remember things I've said in the past, I buy collections of bootleg audio and video material (or borrow if not for sale) from people who are now in the late 40's and 50's and have lost interest in collecting Queen. It's the best way to find upgrades and unknown recordings.
I live in Sheffield by the way. I'm a local and that's why I've spent 2 decades looking for THIS recording above all others.
Believe me, I feel like no stone has been left unturned (short of posting a full page advert in the local paper asking if anyone has it!)

As for someone with a better version planning a release, I honestly don't think it's likely unless the improbable happens and some 60 year old man hears about this concert hitting the internet and thinks "Hey, I recorded that. Might still have the cassette somewhere. Wouldn't know what to do with it though and can't be bothered with Queen anymore anyway"!

This tape has NOT been in trading circles until very recently.

Unfortunately, it's probably only a matter of time before he's back under a new name I would think...

Anyway, Enough of that.. Thanks for this. It's a very enjoyable recording. A shame about the circumstances surrounding it's release.

Hi David, thanks for your answer, it's really appreciated and clears a lot of the stuff I had been thinking about this. I still think that you could do a release of the show, as planned - as you know, there are some who will always prefer a pressed copy over a download. BBC sessions on mini-LP and deluxe boxes, Hot Space sessions on coloured vinyl, £100 bootleg Rainbow sets etc are testament to that.

I know you live in Sheffield, btw - got you on Facebook. I think my avatar gives me away ;). I can only imagine the lengths you went to to get this recording.

Put Wardour and Tarantura at the back of your mind. Even if they have this, it will come down to who produces the better product, better artwork and better price. You make sure it's you.

Thanks for sharing!

Freddie does the 'what more can I do'-bit in ITLOTG. Nice little detail.
John: "It's the one thing I wish I could do - sing."

Listening to this again properly on the 'HI Fi' ( I'm old) and it seems like the quality improves from the beginning of Liar.. As if the taper moved the mic into a better position.. You can just picture him thinking ' Shit.. I wish I'd done that an hour ago..' It's an enjoyable show. The band are a bit edgy and you can hear it.. They were still on the way to becoming the ultra confident live killers of a couple of years or so later.
