Very nice footage. I hadn't seen this. Thanks for sharing!

Man, Freddie looks awkward with all those people at the stage.
He does look a little out of place being that he's so used to being just with Queen but he looks to be having a hell of a great time up there!!!
There Freddie looks thirsty of microphone and attention! It's very funny how he tries to call the attention to him, and how he anxiously tries to sing to the mic even going thru' 2 singers (in a part in which you can hear him). Look at 2:07! LOL

And also it's very funny when Geldof touch Elton's ass! (3:57)

Sadly it was a very messy song. If this were kinda' rehearsed, it would've been better.
Don't forget my collection of demos and outtakes: http://goo.gl/uQARhn PM me if you want any [leaked] multitrack. Ya se ven los tigres en la lluvia.
To me it always looked like Freddie had to make an effort to be given some singing time on the mic while that song is being sung - it's almost like Bono, McCartney, etc., are ignoring him.

Bono was always such an insufferable dick.
The almost complete concert was released on a 4DVD set. The absolutely complete ~16 hours concert (missing just one TV report with backstage footage) is available "unofficially" among "certain collectors". If I remember correctly it had their set, Do They Know It's Christmas and quite funny interviews with Brian and I think also Roger (not sure, I haven't seen it for a couple of years). I remember the Brian one because he told stories like Ozzy guessed the correct gender of his kids before they were born etc.

Thanks!
Queen: Roger Taylor, Mike Grose, Freddie Mercury, Brian May.

I was always surprised why Freddie was not asked to participate in this song (no one gave him the words on a sheet of paper). I bet everyone was jealous that he smoked them that day with Queen's performance.

Yes, I'm sure there was a certain amount of jealousy towards Freddie.
Jealousy indeed I guess. Bono is a wanker anyway.

Nice footage btw. Never seen it before. Thanks for the link.
Where: backstage Live Aid, When: 1985, 5 minutes before all artists go on stage for the final song

Geldof: anyone seeing Freddie?
Bono: he's in the loo
Geldof: everyone! gather around, quick. Now, listen. Freddie does not get his hands on the mic, get it! If he tries to get close, ignore him, even better step in between him and the singer with the mic. If he does get hold of the mic, it could mean ruin to all of us. I could not stress it enough.

Interesting info, thank you. Do you have any idea how we can watch "some" of this unofficial one? Or buy it if it's for sale?

luthorn: haha, true. He had already ruined most of them that day.

Wow, that's just wonderful to watch.

One of the few times in history that a charity show was completely unpretentious and not opportunistic. All for the cause. You can see how real it is both on stage and with the reactions on people's faces.

What changed?

Well, I'll be the dissonant voice here.

I had never seen this video and I hate it. Not because of Bono's assholiness (is that a word?), but because Freddie seems awkward and unconfident during all the song. We all know he was in fact a shy person, who hated interviews and such, but his stage persona has always been flamboyant. On this video, he almost looks like he thinks he doesn't deserve to be there and his behaviour is, IMHO, the strict opposite of his usual stage behaviour. He looks out-of-place, he tries to find the right attitude. Gives me a sad feeling.
