I'm slow to catch on OK....

I've noticed that my DVD (2003), and YouTube footage from the 2011 release, differs to my LP (1992), particularly in One Vision (first place I noticed, that if I listen really carefully I can hear two Freddies...)

Am I making this up, hearing things, or has there actually been a shed load of overdubbing done on that release?

Shame when they do that

Yup there's quite a few vocal overdubs on the 2nd Wembley night. On the top of my head I can remember overdubs in One Vision, WWTLF, Radio Ga Ga and WATC.

Don't waste your time with Wembley. Budapest is the answer.

Yes, those are overdubs. He never got close to hitting those D5's live. There's a C5 overdub in WWTLF as well.

Did they overdub one vision with another night's show, or is that a compressed studio vocal from the record?

He NEVER attempted the D5 in One Vision live, that would be insane lol - it's a studio overdub.

- I mean, is it an overdub that he went into the studio to do after the show, or is it one from the '85 session?

not that it matters, I'm just curious!

just listened again. It's from the '85 recording isn't it. It's strange they did it because it doesn't actually work all that well in context.

It's definitely not from the album version of One Vision, but suppose it could be from an alternative take or something.

I googled some: apparently he first broadcasts of the concert in 1986/7 had no overdubs, but the 1990 VHS had them. Which means he might actually have done them in studio between 1987 and 1990. Actually his voice sounds a bit like some of his more reckless vocal acrobatics on the Miracle demos and unreleased tracks. It has that rough yet edgy quality to it.

On One Vision "look what they've done to my dream" is overdubbed, and it isn't the same as the released vocal although it might be from the '85 session. The "give me your heart I'm ready, there's only one direction" is identical to the single version.

I haven't listened to the others yet. I kinda wish they'd just left it raw.

It's definitely not identical, have another listen. The high notes are much rougher, and the phrasing on "direction" isn't even remotely close to the studio version.

Good ears!

I always suspected stuff like that, especially after watching WWRY/LIVE IN MONTREAL.

Bad obvious mixes. Felt that some guitar parts were altered as well from my vhs copy to dvd.

Pretty disingenuous but eh... it's what they do.

Why call it LIVE though?

Don't forget that there are two nights to pull material from. I've listened to the audience tape, and everything seems to line up. Would you prefer them to have fixed the mistakes in Dragon Attack? Because they didn't.

The only major guitar overdub on any Queen live album is the opening solo in One Vision on Budapest. That's been in there since the 1987 VHS.

Live albums have had overdubs for ages - it's not just Queen. In fact, the list of live albums without overdubs is very small.

Even if there aren't overdubs, there are mixing issues. What if the room wasn't the best sounding room and there were level and EQ issues depending on where you were sitting? Would you want those issues to be on a live album too, or should the album be listenable?

Maybe Budapest is more touched up than we think. Check out the invisible 16ths by Roger:

Could be the video not matching the audio of course.

Don't think it's an audio overdubbed, it's bad film editing. Copy and pasting some frames from another part of the film in a place where doesn't belong there. Check out Roger in 0:20/0:21 https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=aqDjfdwgFU4#t=19  this example, with your example are mistakes in film editing, not audio overdubbing. If you check the multicam video there's no Roger cam on that part of the song.
