I really don't know why, I just like the songs. Probably because they put more effort into the music instead of just treating it as a backdrop for the lyrics, and because they weren't afraid to do something different from verse-chorus-verse-chorus.

Great thread. It's also interesting now that when I first listened to them, their first single was 10 years before that - which seemed like a life time (in fact it was - I wasn't even born!) but now looking back 30 years later, it seems like nothing.
Even yesterday I was having a chat with a friend of a friend of mine and we agreed on one thing... Queen has the best vocalist and the best guitar expression tone! And that's the core to me!
For me it's the songs Adam Lambert wrote on this Tour. He is absolutely fantastic. He could use a younger more talented band though.
I just LOVE his shoes. Omg they're to die for.
He is just the amazing absolute of cool. He is incredible

Were you drunk or ovulating when you wrote that?

Neither. Just needed a laugh and figured someone would bite. Haha.
Surely, it was OBVIOUS
If I were taking you seriously, do you think I'd have asked a person named Matt if he were ovulating?
^well it'd be a nice insult.
I based my characterization on what I'd consider the absolute worst possibility of a Queen newbie interspersed with bits of Lambert worship as a celebrity (as opposed to his being a singer)

Not that they'd be anything I'd ever wear, but I think Adam's shoes are pretty sweet actually :D
I'd say, though, when I first got into Queen, it was more the crazy-ass songs combined with Brian's totally unique utterly awesome guitar tone, than Freddie's voice........
