Has anyone got the two stand alone Digipack CD's yet?
Has Fun In Space been sorted out this time?

Weren't they straight copies of the The Lot box set?

^ Apparently not.
Surprisingly (according to a post on QOL) they have been remastered (again) by Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering, Los Angeles.

Well, 'best' compilation was newly re-mastered as well. But actually it's the same 'The Lot' remasters with some alteration. Same 'slow speed' & 'early fade out' issues on Fun In Space tracks.
Hopefuly it's not the case with these new reissues.

Unbelieveble.

It transpires that the Fun In Space Digipack CD by Omnivore is once again remastered from the same flawed transfer, so why even bother???

Re: Fun in Space and Strange Frontier to be re-issued

I received both the Fun In Space and Strange Frontier Digipack CDs by Omnivore. Both CD's include a booklet with some basic liner notes by Greg Brooks, lyrics, and a quote from Roger Taylor. Front/back sleeves and booklet have been produced to mimic the original vinyl release. Both CD's have been newly remastered by Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen at Lurssen Mastering, Los Angeles. Vinyls will arrive next week!
So all of the tracks have been remastered again, which is fine. The problem is that they used the same tape transfers that were used on The Lot as the source material. This isn't an issue for Strange Frontier, but remains a problem for Fun In Space. The speed issues thoughout the entire album are still present. The early fade on Future Management is still there. The My Country I & II transfer is still awful.
My theory is that the 2013/2015 transfer for Fun In Space is from the original master tape, which is obviously damaged in some way. I believe the 1996 transfer was done from a safety copy. Either that or the master tape degraded a lot over the last 20 years. Regardless, I would say avoid the new version of Fun In Space. I would recommend Strange Frontier. [/QUOTE]
..... and yes, the master tape is degraded, but these issues could still have been fixed by computer software.

New remasters are just loud. It's all a marketing farce. I don't know how record companies haven't been sued. Google "loudness war"

It seems artwork and packaging is the only good point on these individual reissues...

So "loudness war" is what we would get on the vinyl reissues :/

So, is the ''Best'' compilation also remastered by Gavin Lurssen and Reuben Cohen?

As in every single CD and vinyl that's mastered/remastered this days. :/

Yes, mastering team is the same.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Seeing as it's the same transfers that were used for 'The Lot', I really don't understand why another 'remaster' was deemed necessary.
It seems the 1996 remaster of Fun In Space is still definitive.
