Watched the new r.e.m. documentary the other day ( r.e.m. by M.t.v.) and was wondering if there was any connection, appreciation words or quote between the groups.

Michael Stipe is a real artist in my book so Queen and Freddie must have caught his attention at some point.

Do you have any information on this one?

The chorus of 'Wake Up Bomb' (get drunk and sing along to Queen) springs to mind. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any at the moment.

I distinctly remember reading an interview with Peter Buck, their guitarist, where he said his parts on their song Drive were his homage to Brian! Even maybe to the point where he played with a coin for a pick? I might be wrong on that detail....

'Wake Up Bomb' should have been that LPs opening song.

REM played at Milton Keynes. A superb bootleg!

From Wikipedia "The arrangement of 'Drive' was, in part, inspired by Queen," reported Scott Litt. "Pete and Mike are big Queen fans. Queen records, for all their bombast, sounded like each player had a personality

I had a R.E.M period in the 90s. I got bored with them, and I doubt I will ever search for them on Spotify anytime soon.
Basically blind em and deaf em in the first 10 minutes, and while they are recovering from that put in the less good songs

I'm assuming you're also bored with Queen, or there wouldn't be any connection between the two bands..?

Of course not. Queen has a lot more dept and creativity in their material. R.E.M have some catchy songs, but over time it is not enough for me.

R.E.M., a classic band. Document, Green and Automatice For the People are masterpieces.

^^^ Agree. Also talking about depth try E-Bow the Letter. A profound song both lyricaly and musically. Also its Michael Stipe's favourite as far as i know

E-bow The Letter is awesome. Have to say I only know their work from Green onwards (except for a few early 'well-known' songs ofcourse).

I think "So. Central Rain" is pretty good.

I got bored with them too (in fairness, the only albums I had were Out of Time and Automatic for the People). But then recently, I picked up Murmur, after listening to it on Spotify (as it often makes it to best ever album lists), and I find it to be a better album than the previous two I've mentioned, although I've been listening to Automatic for the People again a bit of late too.
