Who is willing to help me conceirning the Caracas 1981 video recording.

Do we have any evidence that this was ever broadcasted ?

The vhs emerged in Europe about 1994-1995 but there are no tv logo's or what so ever. There are no textual inserts or end titles which show a
TV station.

So what is the story ? Who recorded it ? And was it indeed broadcasted or not ? If yes by what channel ?

The video seems very clean but also unnatural : the colors and edges almost show some unreal plastic / artificial effect could this be due to a poor NTSC to PAl transfer ? Or was the crew sent put with some experimental camera filters ? BTW what is standard in Venezuela Pal or Ntsc ?

If Queenzone will help with some mystery solvkng answers I will make some nice shares !

This video is pretty strange. It always looked like it went through some digital noise reduction and was dubbed back to analogue tape, but I don't think something like this was done those days, or was it?
Venezuela used NTSC since the 80's, so probably the tape went through a NTSC -> PAL conversion, which would explain the messed up colours.

And BTW the fact that it has no intermissions or TV logos means nothing. I live in a country which started to show TV logos during the 90's (well we had just 2 channels, each in different language) and there were no intermissions during broadcasts, even now in our legal system it is illegal for the national TV to show commercials during a program (the private stations can do whatever they want). So maybe the situation in Venezuela was similar in 1981?

What i can tell about that show is how the image is rather dark. That can be for a number of possibilties.

1) The filming was a test for another night
2) Bad direction of the camerawork
3) Bad transfer
4) It was done on purpose

According to this blog

All of the three shows were recorded by Radio Caracas Televisión

I have no idea as to the source, but the picture has some form of solarisation effect to it which, as someone who worked with transferring videos to VCD and then DVD in the early days, suggests to me that a low resolution capture card was used to get it into the computer before being converted to mpeg2 for DVD.

It's always possible that the Master tape is on Hi-Band Umatic and was copied to VHS which was subsequently sneaked out of the TV station and captured to a PC in someone's home.
Remember, there were no standalone DVD Recorders on the market when this first appeared and unless you had £1000 for something like a Matrox video capture card, the only other alternative was low quality mpeg2 capture (at best!) because the graphics card element of the devices weren't up to the full colour ranges we have today.

Well the problem is not in the capture, the problem is the VHS looks the same. That's what I couldn't understand when I captured Sikke's VHS tape, the problem was already on the VHS. It looked like somebody recorded a digital file to a VHS, but that makes no sense, or ?

Can't you tell the whole story publicly? At least a "censored" version of the story?

Are you 100% sure about this? Because if you claim everybody else is wrong it would be nice to have some proof :-)

Yes, you're probably right Peter. I didn't think out the timelines properly when I composed my reply last night.
I remember doing video conversions from NTSC to PAL long before DVD happened (I'm 44 after all and was involved in the TV industry at one point), so maybe it's as simple as the converter and or vision mixer (for Time Base Correction), it went through had the solarisation knob turned up a bit without the user knowing?
It's all speculation of course.
Hopefully Cesar will shed some light on the situation.
Crumbs. I probably got my copy from him! It's SOOO long ago...

This is what I bought back in 2001 when I started capturing my VHS's to DVD (£10 a disc back then on Pioneers 101 DVD-R which was only available to begin with as part of an Apple MAc package!)
http://www.gthelectronics.com/controlc.htm

It's a little beauty and I still use it to this day for TBC and standards conversions. Cost me £350 I think it was.
That "digitise effects" knob in the bottom right will create solarisation effects.

Why even say that much in public if you're not willing to tell the story? You could just PM him. Are you looking for attention? You're about to get some...

Why is it that Queen collectors can get away with such carrot dangling with impunity? I have never witnessed this in any other music collecting community in 15 years being connected to dozens of scenes. Virtually any other place would have you banned for such antics.

This thread is here for DISCUSSION, not to tell people that you have information to contribute but are choosing not to contribute for whatever pointless reason.

This is a place of generosity and community working together to help one another. After all the free things you have downloaded from this place, you can't even offer a story? Just deplorable.

I don't care if I get flamed for this post. I'm right, and everyone without your pitiful and outdated clandestine hoarding mentality will agree with me.

You will not get flamed because many people resonate with your words.

We have plenty of things to be happy about in the announce section.

And because this site isn´t moderated it´s up to us to talk honestly about what we think goes on in this community, even when others don´t agree with it. That´s what free speech is all about.

Specially the posts by the user "P-Tr extinction event ". He even posted a link to the venezuelan national library where they have the 1 hour TV special on video for local loan.

I hope this will get you closer to your answers.
