Seriously man... you need to make a tutorial for video restoration... that's really impressive, unbelievable skills.
Waiting for the tutorial! ;)

But that's a transfer problem, so it would be great if the owner did a new transfer, but that's too greedy :-)

Anyway, a technical question - how did you remove some of the stuff? I mean I know there are pretty good filters for removing dust spots and scratches, but how did you remove the damage which I don't know the English term for, but you can see it on your third picture? Was it again some filter or did you manually painted them out?

And thanks for the share of course
Photoshop :-) Roughly 4 or more hours of painting work and that's the best, most precise way. As far as I know, there are no filters which can remove streaks that big, at least not without affecting the rest of the picture drastically.
That´s passion! And all that work for a Youtube video? You´re making me feel bad that i´m getting it for free :-)

Thanks, hehe.

Well, there's just one reason I did it. This video, although taken from youtube, is a direct film transfer and I think after my enhancement it is better than the version on Greatest Hits DVD. So I think it was all worth it given it's a piece of Queen and music history which should be preserved in the best possible way.

I didn't remove all the small spots though. That would have taken years. Avisynth took care of most of them, I just did some final "proofreading" and finalizing. Mostly these big streaks only occurred a frame before and after the cut so if this video had many cuts (angles changing every so often) it would have been even more of a pain :P

I can tell you this, if you know how to use Avisynth and Photoshop then this is very doable. Google is your friend!

Thanks, master.

Fantastic job.
You've made the video 10 years younger, so 4 hours or more of photoshop and Avisynth are worth it.

PS. If QPL is not wise enough to employ you, I figure you can get rich by touch up photos of fat girls, or better, "flabby wives", as someone here joyfully mentioned.

Here's what I said - "You mean the glow around the middle lighting rig? Judging from the screenshot it doesn't look like a video issue but an actual glow." --- This kind of stuff is what I removed with Photoshop. The big streaks, not sure how else to call them. Avisynth can remove the small film spots with no problems but it fails when it comes to damage like this. .

Just to look at these pictures like this my jaw drops. Pictures get older, not young! :-)
I really don´t know how you do it, but you have one hell of a talent. I think Sikke should consider giving you the raw file for you to work your magic on, even if it isn´t for sharing.
And let me tell you something, your work in restoration is WORLD CLASS. You are a genius in this kind of field. You bring images back to live again. It´s impressive and this community is very lucky to have a talented person like you doing this.

I´m with those who believe you would be a great addition to the QP video team.
