The concert was a nightmare...horrible.
I think the public took some peyote before the concert or something.
I enjoyed it but it was not one of the finest moments of thq Q+AL era...

The band was great, but the audience disappointed me. We in São Paulo, 10.000 guys, made much more noise and sang every single music. Even Stone Cold Crazy was loudly sang.

The Rock In Rio audience was a much more generic audience. They knew the top of the Greatest Hits only. You can see that NO ONE is singing Fat Bottomed Girls, for example. At São Paulo the arena almost exploded! Hahahaha
On the livestream and TV broadcast, they used the soundboard audio and mixed in some audience noise. Apparently the audience was really, really loud but we did not get to hear that.

Look at RGG -- you can see people clapping but you can barely hear it.

****

Hard to judge what is going on by seeing a few of the people in the audience. But people who were there say that the audience sang along with every song.
Sorry, but I disagree. My friend was there and he was just one of the "I only know Bohemian Rhapsody from Queen. The other bands were way better, Queen sucks". Two guys that I know also said that it wasn't nice because no one was interested on the music.

That said, I agree that it was a soundboard mix, etcetera. But I also can see things with my eyes. People were clapping on Radio Ga Ga? Nice, one of the Greatest Hits (literally). When the show started, you can SEE when the cameras film the audience and most of them are doing nothing. They're just frozen! So the camera occasionally filmed the people faces, etc. 90 percent were watching the show through the phone, the other 10 percent were looking to stage without singing a thing! Because they DIDNT KNEW the songs! I have no reason to lie, and you can see it watching the show again. Or I can print if you prefer.

The point is that today's music in Brazil, looking at the big picture, sucks. And most of the guys that were there last night weren't Queen fans, or even Queen ocasional listeners. That's a fact. And sucks.
EDIT: I posted a HUGE text here and it's gone because of some Queenzone bug! :(

I won't be bothered to type the whole thing all over again - but thake it from someone who's a great Queen fan and who went there expecting history to be made: it was REALLY intense. The audio mix did make the audience a lot less loud. One of the mics for audience noise was right next to where I was, and trust me, if they didn't balance the volume, everytime Adam went on the B stage you wouldn't hear any music, but instead only lots of intense, beatle-mania alike hysterical screaming.

People did sing every song line by line. It probably sounded louder in Sao Paulo simply because it was a smaller, closed venue. I watched QPR in Rio in 2008, it was a closed arena. I also watched Metallica at Rock in Rio in 2011 and Black Sabbath in Sao Paulo in 2013, open air concerts. I guess I don't even have to explain how much wilder Metallica and Black Sabbath audiences were, yet QPR's was more audible as their voices echoed throughout the house, while Metallica's and Black Sabbath's dispersed (and couldn't compete with the MASSIVE audio rig).

And yes, there were many fans of the other bands and casual Queen fans. But not as in "there were few actual Queen fans", but rather that we (Queen fans, older people etc) had never heard of the other acts and didn't expect them to even have fans in Brazil, yet there were enough to make themselves heard by the bands. But there were probably as many guys dressed as Freddie Mercury as there were New Republic fans :P Hahaha

If you don't wanna take my word for it, then just check Queen's fan page on Facebook and take their page admin's word. Apparently (s)he is touring with the band through South America and was stunned by the audience at Rock in Rio. Or simply check Brian and Adam's reactions to the interactions with the audience.

I'm not saying Rock in Rio audience was "better" than Sao Paulo - I actually doubt it was. But it was nowhere near the piece of junk you're trying to paint. It was probably almost as good as Sao Paulo, but "feels" epic because it was huge.
Hehe, okay! :D

While we're talking about audience and webcast... Has anyone found a good video of the fireworks opening the main stage?

It was a beautiful show with an instrumental version of BoRhap, and the crowd sang along beautifully, it was probably one of the most memorable moments of the night - but the only version I found features a TV anchor speaking all over it :( It's the Multishow version. I wonder if the webcasts aired that part... They probably wouldn't have someone ruining the show by talking :P

Is it just me, or did Lambert sound really thin throughout? It's like the lack of touring took away the small amount of grit he had a few months ago with Queen. Close your eyes and it's a woman singing. Not that there's anything wrong with female voices, but it seriously lacked punch in the performances I listened to.

I had different expectations with the song "love of my life" showing footage of Freddie at Wembley 86???!!!!

They just don't get it huh.... Wembley at rock in rio. Amateurs!
I suspect they are limited as to what clean footage of Freddie they actually have. Of course, footage of Freddie from Rio in 85 would have been ideal really.
=============================
Well that"s a bit bullocks of course. The tape from Wembley was the same kind of tape (quality ) where rio was shot on. Qp knew for months queen were gonna play Rio 2015. A simple email or call to Globo tv would provide them with a decent master copy like the one we saw bits of laat week on the rio 30th anniversary documentary. But no, it was too much work, money or they didn't think about this at all.

Having seen the show only yesterday, I have to say it was not good! One Vision to start the show is a cliché! Then, terrible change from OV to Stone Cold Crazy. Brian left out some guitar solos, like the Save Me guitar solo. Roger is tool old for that! He needs constant support from his son. He doesn's sing backing vocals, he messed up a little bit the lyrics on A Kind Of Magic and he simply doesn't move his body! I don't know what is he doing! Adam forgot the lyrics on One Vision. Don't Stop Me Now and Save Me.
By the way, how can You do a Queen show wihout Tie Your Mother Down?! Only a snippet on the guitar solo...!

I think you're being a little harsh on the "messed up the lyrics" bits both for Roger and Adam. It's not really that unusual - grab pretty much any bootleg from the Freddie era and you'll hear him swapping a couple of lines here and there. I guess it's more importante to not mess up the melody.

Roger certainly could've moved a little more around the stage, but it doesn't really have much to do with his age - on his solo tours he's always been the sort of singer that just stands in the middle of the stage and sings the songs.

And Adam was under a lot of pressure from the fans, from the crowd, from the press and so on, yet he delivered a fantastic performance. He quickly and easily had the whole crowd under his control and chanting his name. He had a very difficult job to do, and he did it wonderfully.

Now, Brian... I guess what you said about the other two and lyrics should actually apply to Brian and solos. I don't know if he was rusty from being 6 months away from Queen or if he was nervous (you guys from São Paulo, how did he sound there?), but he messed up several solos. On several moments he was "eating" notes, missing the tempo or simply sounding hesitant. The solo on the One Vision intro was a bit shameful, and even the improvised solos on A Kind Of Magic sound muffled and messy.

The LiveXLive mix had a LOT of audience noise. They were definitely singing along. Adam forgot a lot of lyrics but overall he was pretty good. I really liked Roger's vocals on Under Pressure, too.

Now, I can't be the only one to be disappointed when Brian played the opening riff to Ogre Battle in the guitar solo and it didn't transition into the full song.

You are not the only one who was hoping they would bring back a couple early Queen songs to RIR -- I was also sad when this turned out to be a tease,

But looking at the videos, most people in this audience seem to know the big Queen hits and not the early rock songs. I think the set list was right for this audience,

It may be called Rock in Rio but it was pretty much Pop-Rock and Pop in Rio.

I would love to go to a QAL show that was comprised of songs from the 1071-1975 -- but I am not sure that would please most people.

I'm not a fan of Adam Lambert outside of this collaboration, but I really enjoyed Ghost Town, it was better than most of Cosmos Rocks.

They should make an album.

People, like I do, who think a little bit futher about the way Brian, Roger and QP present themselves in the Media. Of course, Qp has to make their own decisions at the end.

But it's just not right to say comments like :

"Rio 85 was very special for us, the audience siging with 'Love of my Life' really touched us and paved the way for the rest of our shows in South America. Blah, blah , blah.

"We look at every show on itself and throw in some suprises as non of the shows are the same"; blah blah blah .....

And when it comes to the result:

* wembley 86 footage at 'Rock in Rio'?
* same setlist over and over again (with Ghost town as Non Queen track)

So I can imagine people see Brian and Roger looked bored during this short American tour.

So who cares? : I do!
