I;ve always been a bit puzzled about this one. Why does everyone mime except when Brian plays guitar? And is that a different version of the line "I've learned my passion in the good old fashioned school of loverboys"? The last few words sound different to the album mix.
"Queen is the only band in the world that can play so heavily that your nose bleeds, then offer a silk handkerchief to clean up with."

It was only a "partially" mimed performance. Roger also sings Mike Stone's line. This nice logo free version also features the audience applause as on the original broadcast!

It's a different recording altogether, it's not the one on the ADATR album

I'd say that this is a better quality version - http://www.queenzone.com/forums/1390564/good-old-fashioned-lover-boy-totp-enhancement-.aspx?anchor=1390564 .
That's from an SD broadcast though.
Hopefully somebody captured this new HD broadcast at 1080 PAL

That's true. I'd like to take a look at the raw broadcast. But meanwhile, until someone shares it, I'd like to urge people to download this SD version. It's miles better than the online stream rip posted in this thread.

I know. That's what I said! I am wondering why Brian's guitar was performed live. I seem to recall something about live performances earning more on the BBC than mimed performances -- possibly something to do with a musician's union agreement -- so a band would sometimes mime on TOTP but the lead vocals were performed live. Here it's the guitar. I might be wrong about that though. Good call about the Roger line but I don't think it's sung live. Sounds more like a recording to me.

Is the whole thing a different version? The only vocal bit that seems different to me is Roger doing the Mike Stone line and Fred doing a slightly different ending to the line before the guitar solo (and Brian;s guitar obviously).

The lead vocal is different as well.

Why not play both versions simultaneously and spot all the differences between the two?

None of it is live.

The whole thing has been re-recorded, with not a trace of the original remaining, and the band are simply miming to the re-recorded version.

I'm surprised there's any debate. I thought it was incredibly obvious, and very well known.

Just goes to show how uneducated we all are then, some bits sound like the original recording to me.
I always thought it was partially mimed with some 'live' bits thrown in for the TOTP audience.
I'm not sure why they would go to the trouble of recording a whole new version for a TOTP appearance though.
Forgive me for discussing what is apparently obvious and well known to most of mankind.

I'm sure I posted an HD copy of this a few years ago, but my friend recorded the HD transmission stream and as soon as I get to him next week I'll edit the track out and upload it here.
But Chief Mouse: you have to PROMISE to do a 50fps cleaned-up version just for me so that it retains that video look please! ;-)

Erm, if it was completely mimed, why does Brian shake his head in disappointment with his playing during the solo?

I guess we can all have our own opinions until the true facts emerge, if they ever do.

Indeed. Roger not playing the cymbal catch after the "....taste the wine" line is one of the most obvious (and disappointing!) differences.
