In Friends will be friends, the lyrics are
'So the pound has dropped and the children are creating,'
What does this mean?

It means that the value of the British pound had decreased compared to foreign monetary units. In essence, it makes the British pounds in your wallet worth less. In other words: bad news.
Also 'Children are creating' means 'someone' is causing a fuss, or arguing/fighting
I always thought it was "the children are created".....not sure what sense that would make, though! lol
I always thought it was "so the rounds are fought and the children are berating"
... Oh no i didn't. Just effing around

That's in the Michael Jackson cover version.
It's about Aids.
A site with English idioms based on Queen lyrics would be greaaaaat. :')
"The pound has dropped " is a euphemism for sexual intercourse........and consequently, "the children are created ".
Simples.
Simples.
And a few verses later...
"Got a pain in the chest
Doctors on strike what you need is a rest
It's not easy love, but you've got friends you can trust"
At least everything clear there.

Serves me right for answering the question seriously.....
Heheheheh.
Well I for one appreciated the reply.

Was it expected that the pound always dropped at the time of writing this song?
Freddie liked to use a lot of metaphors, didn't he?
Perhaps someone should make a thread about it.
