The truth is that Queen made a mistake in their original contract with DoRo (which probably only allows them rights on VHS releases or something similar), and are too stubborn to pay for anything more.
Except several DoRo videos were used on GVH2 and also a Cross promo video was released in the RT boxset. More likely DoRo are withholding material QPL don't have in their archives.
If it was a question of DoRo only "thinking" they have any rights to the material, QP would have dragged them to court long before GVH2 was released.
That leaves only two alternatives:
1) DoRo owns the visual material, and Queen doesn't want to pay for it, or
2) the material has already been given to QP years ago, but they don't want to release it
Which would you rather believe?

Further info tells me that Queen own the completed products, but the rushes are held by DoRo and it's those they want. Makes sense to me - go back to then original footage and re-edit to get the highest quality.

You know, when you combine the problems in re-editing the material with your previous message about the copyright issue (and take into account that Roger had no problems with his videos being released just a few years ago), it seems to me that the problem is that Queen wants to change the videos in some way. If it was just a question of quality, DoRo would have been able to provide the finished material in better quality.
I wonder what could be so important a change that has kept these videos from being released for the past 15 years?
Maybe Brian had his wig backwards in one of the montages...

It may explaines the lack of bonus material for the Budapest release.

It's possibly something technically daft like Queen own the actual content, but DoRo own the physical tapes/films etc that it was recorded on, and so they're holding out for a good price to hand it over.
It sometimes works in a similar way in the collectors community where an acetate is legally bought (say, at auction), but the copyright of the material on it remains with the band. The buyer of the disc can't release the material but can legally keep hold of the disc and prevent the artist having access to it.

I seem to remember there being a quote from Brian years ago that suggested the WWRY concert footage was the only footage filmed for them that they didn't retain ownership of? But then, I'm sure I've seen DoRo copyright text on everything they worked on??
If the band were as savvy as they like to make out, they'd have made a contract up between themselves and DoRo clearly stating that the footage was being filmed for QPL and that ownership was retained by QPL. If such a contract existed, QPL could easily take them to court to recover all tapes in question. I don't really believe this story though. According to Wikipedia, Jim Beach was even involved in helping them out when they went into administration in 2003 or so. And as previously stated, numerous DoRo directed promo videos have been released on DVD....

Greg mentioned this at Convention in November.
He's currently cataloguing Brian's archive for what "may" become two boxsets as Brian is keen to have all his collaborative works released as well. Goodness knows how rights issues will be sorted for that boxset though.
Any Queen boxset just gets further and further away as, let's face it, that's the final thing they'll ever release I expect.
It defies logic.
If QP are all about creating accessible product, then how in the world are Brian's obscure 90s collaborations deemed more marketable than alternate versions of songs off Queen's classic albums?

That's the thing - only half of the band is involved in the choices made these days. Were John and Freddie still around/involved in band matters, I feel QPL would operate with far more dignity, business sense, and good taste for music and graphic design (seriously - Freddie, the incredible artist and graphic design major that he was, would've said something to the right people about how hideous some of the cover art has been over the last decade or so).

That's Queen Productions in a nutshell.

Brian's box set isn't about creating an accessible project, it's about his vanity. Roger already had his box set, and Brian needs a bigger one because he's more important.
Unfortunately he doesn't have as many albums as Roger, so it has to be padded out with the collaborations. The good thing about collaborations is that it also shows what an important person Brian is, because he has important friends.
Based on the previous history of QP, I'll predict that:
1) The collaborations box set will be Brian's next release
2) It will be massively incomplete (because of licensing rights), and have even more issues than The Lot
3) Brian will see its commercial failure as the proof that the other box set isn't needed, and drop any further plans without another word.
4) Queen's GH4 (with all tracks written by Brian) will be released in November 202...

I think your missing the mark.
Queen touring limited is BM and RT. But Queen productions limited is still what it always has been, with Jim Beach I belueve representing Freddie. Just because BM and RT now have little or no direct contact with JD doesn't mean he doesn't have any input into what is released

Agreed, but I can also understand BM wanting his music out there.
I think it's great that we now seem to be getting some old Queen shows on DVD but I believe that the track choices and content of the 40th anniversary bonus discs was not very good and when compared to what Jimmy Page has done with Zeppelin seem quit poor and still needs to be addressed.
