Dear Queenzoners,
all credits for this new pearl go the the ones who spent their money to buy this piece of Queen history and risk a lot for that and at least to the Wizard to make it available for the public. Please have a listen to the first live performance of Queen's most successful song.

regards and thanks for bringing this up to light.
W.

This will undoubtedly make quite a few people blow their goo in all the right ways !

Previously uncirculated, this is the first show of the A Night At The Opera tour, which means it's the first live recording of Bohemian Rhapsody - pretty historically significant. This recording is presumably from the master tape, but unconfirmed at this time. A bunch of collectors combined to buy this tape from an auction, and let me assure you it was not cheap !!

There is some bass distortion. Since it's mono and there was more tape hiss in the left channel, I copied the right channel on top of it. I also slowed it down as the tape played slightly too quickly.

Freddie's speech after Sweet Lady is missing for a tape flip (White Queen through Keep Yourself Alive are a 45 minute side of a tape) and God Save The Queen is missing. The show is otherwise complete.

Although Mercury delivers an excellent Sweet Lady, the band almost train wreck after the second chorus ! Essential listening here.

Note the interesting combination of Son And Daughter and Keep Yourself Alive via Brian May's solo, part of a four song mini-set from their debut album.

I am looking forward to haering this, train wreck and all. They must've been nervous. I had a old tape of the 2nd Liverpool show where Deacy launches at full throttle into Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll, while the rest of the band are playing Stone Cold Crazy. Thank you to all involved for your generosity, As Freddie said: " may you all have champagne for breakfast!" Cheers!

Fantastic! Thanks :-)

A legendary performance... simply because one of the most legendary songs of all time was heard live by an audience for the first time.

Love it how Freddie is daring while singing Sweet Lady. It happened quite a few times that the first performance(s) of a song had him singing it closer to the record.
This happened throughout his entire career. Remember how he sang A kind of magic much closer to the record at the first couple of shows before settling with a less demanding interpretation :-)
