No it wasn't. He has some unstable moments due to him being nervous probably, but it's mainly the tape fluttering that makes him sound weak. Just check the YTMBA performance released in 2011 - likely the best one ever.
It is definitely a great version! That style of singing suits him really well.

I agree that the sound quality doesnt do him any favours. But during this concert he plays way too safe. Some parts of The Prophets song is almost embarrassing because he sings so flat to avoid high notes. You can not blame the sound there.
Basically blind em and deaf em in the first 10 minutes, and while they are recovering from that put in the less good songs

True. But to be honest he never pulled that song off very well IMO, maybe except for the recently surfaced Liverpool concert.

This might be regarded as blasphemy, but I wouldn't mind them pulling the flat notes up a tad if they decide to release this. I'd love to listen to a live version of the Prophet's song without cringing at sour notes all through it.

Here's my thought on the matter. Instead of Hyde Park or Knebworth (which by the way are both amazing gigs) why can't we get something from their US tour? Why not Houston 77? I know that one was professionally recorded and it's a great concert.
Wait for it next year. They can't miss that one, (i hope) especially if they're planning on celebrating the 40th anniversary of WWRY and WATC

True that. I think he would have handled the song much better around 1979 - 1981. I recently watched the Montreal show, and omg that man could sing well live!

When it comes to Knebworth he also changed songs a bit to get the best out of his abilities on the night. But in my opinion he was better at compencating with power in that era. I am often stunned about his power at Wembley/Budapest even though the range suffered a bit.

Fair enough. Personally not a fan of his shouting in the mid 80's and much prefer his 70's voice, but the main issue is that they had cut down a majority of their more interesting songs in favour of their pop stuff. I'd take the worst version of The Prophet's Song over the best version of Friends Will Be Friends any day of the week.

The Prophets song is definitely the better song. By far! :)

When it comes to Freddie's voice my favourite periodes are 77-81 and 88 - 91. :)

Well, then you would just be cringing at the autotune artifacts.

The only shouting Freddie did in this period was when he wanted the audience to sing along
