I watched a random episode tonight on Showbox from last season (season 7124) and it was tragic. It was great but it isn't any more. Is it carrying on far longer than it should?
* for UK audiences only... like Only Fools and Horses.... :-(

It definitely is. A mere shadow of its former self.

Still better than Family Guy. No idea why that's still on the air.

I think the best seasons are 16 - 18, especially season 17.
The newer seasons have too big plots, I think ... and are no fun.

I forget what season they're on but I stopped watching once the story elements gave away and it simply became a series of one off jokes per panel.
To ME that was around season 12 (started going bad) and I stopped watching altogether around 14-15.
I recently returned to it last season which had a great episode with Kang and Kodos, another great episode which was a futurama crossover and the Simpson's guy as well as the Halloween episode.
But the other stuff was dismal. Absolutely bland. ESPECIALLY the crap by Paul Rudd.
I've watched most of this season and think it's gotten back to scenarios and less jump the shark bullshit. I attribute that to David Mirkin returning (though I couldn't tell you when he'd returned since I don't care that much about the shows new episodes anymore)
I think it's been a solid season considering the crap I'd left it on years ago.
They're less preposterous ideas lately. More universal.
I've enjoyed most of the first 6 episodes
Maybe I should watch the whole season on demand and comeback with ratings.

Family Guy started to get really lame when they overloaded the show with flashbacks and pop culture references. For the past seasons they cut down a bit on it, though.
As far as 'The Simpsons' go, I have no clue how they still get enough ratings to be in the air. The writing is just lame and godawful, and every season since about 2000 has only gotten worse and worse. Every time there's a promo all they do is announce who the celebrity guest will be, but it seems like that's the only way they feel they can get ratings. That whole Lady GaGa episode was just an embarrassing pile of junk that came across as a lecture on political correctness. On top of that, the new writers and producers absolutely ruined Homer's character by just running out of ways to make him dumb, when the whole appeal of Homer was that he was an idiot that made an effort to be a good dad, husband, neighbor, and overall good person, but in many cases he just failed miserably.

...and while we are in the subject, fuck FXX for re-broadcasting those 90s classics on widescreen format. No need to stretch the picture.
Just keep it a standard 4:3, the way it was intended to be seen.

Family Guy has had it's share of lame moments, but there's always something per episode to make it enjoyable. The earlier ones were hilarious, and they push their luck an awful lot with the sick humour (which I like!). The Simpsons has not been funny for about 15 years, maybe more. It's shit, and should be axed - the very fact they don't make the box sets any more is an indication...

They don't make the box sets anymore? Really?
I hate this streamed media age

So I was told anyway...it was by someone who collected them, so he's pretty pissed off about it. I don't even think it's to do with streaming - it's more about poor sales! I'll find out how he knows about it, I think he's either read it or been told it at at the local HMV....

Yesterday I have seen the first 6 episodes of season 27. I didn't laugh once. Most of the time I was thinking "WTF am I watching?"

Family Guy is far better than The Simpsons is nowadays. The latter has sunk so low it isn't funny to even watch it anymore. But I still do just out of respect for the previous seasons and simply because I've almost nothing else to watch given my schedule.
And yes, Futurama would be much better than these two time and again.

On the subject of. There have been some Simpsons defectors who did RICK and MORTY on adult swim.
That show is irreverent, bizarre, philosophical and offensive as well as funny.
