Costa , I totally agree...I have had my shock, my acceptance and surprisingly some tears ....same as with my beloved Starman...
Interestingly , the thing that made me start to cry was a cover of Adam Levine doing this cover of Purple Rain...I was totally prepared to not like it and instead it reduced me to tears, I think Adam did an excellent job, but that's just me...

Not a lot of people know 'Love...Thy Will be Done'. It's a beautifully written song, and my favorite by Martika.

It's speculated that he or his wife (or both) messed around with mdma prior to the conception of Boy Gregory Nelson who died from Pfeiffer 's syndrome.

It's rare but more common in ecstacy users.

Aside from that he'd also allegedly taken LSD prior to making THE BLACK ALBUM *(partially released but pulled at the last minute, then re released later)

A message on the music video "Alphabet street" shows this kind of message (I forget it verbatim)

"Please don't buy the black album I didn't. .."

This alleged overdose (something my brother had heard: he knows Prince 's old guitar technician)
Might have stemmed from his refusal to go forward with a double hip replacement. (This goes back at least a decade ago)

It's possible he couldn't bear the pain and developed a high tolerance to it.
who knows.

I've been hearing all kinds of crazy shit about Prince's death. I think it's deeply disrespectful to speculate widely, regardless of the fact that he was a public person.

The latest thing I heard is that he was HIV positive, but stopped all treatment a couple of years ago, and ended up dying of full blown AIDS. I don't believe it, of course. You don't just drop dead in an elevator if you're dying of AIDS. And you don't die of the flu (some less intellectual folks are devising some questionable logic by proclaiming that, 'oh, yes, he died of the flu because he had the AIDZZZ and his imm... imm... immuno thingy system was shot') - you usually get pneumocystis pneumonia like Freddie. But there are various sources online which are repeating this rumour.

It's likely that he died of a drug overdose - I think this is not speculation so much as a reasonable assertion, but it's not a statement of fact. It's only once the autopsy and/or toxicology report is out that we'll know. But he certainly was messing around with pills for a long time.

Kudos to Mary Parsons from examiner.com for actually explaining what HIV is: http://www.examiner.com/article/rumors-that-prince-had-hiv-what-we-need-to-know-about-the-disease.

It's unbelievable how much ignorance still exists regarding this disease. I wish she had mentioned that AIDS is practically unseen in the developed world nowadays, since HIV is managed by the cocktail drugs (HAART) - which she does make reference to - which keep the levels of HIV in the body down to undetectable levels (but it still manages to very craftily hide somewhere, which is why when you stop the drugs, it re-appears). Even if Prince had stopped said drugs, it's unlikely that he'd be prancing around on his bike a few days before suddenly succumbing to AIDS in a lift.

Can you imagine Freddie dying of AIDS suddenly, while in transit? "Freddie Mercury sadly succumbed to AIDS yesterday, while on his way to fellow bandmate John Deacon's birthday party. His last words are reported to have been "One dump, one turd, two tits, John Dea..."

His brother in law has supposedly stated that he was up for six days straight.

My concern is a strange one. I consider the man a mentor; But my interest isn't salacious. It's for closure from a mind and gutted heart blow.

I look forward to seeing the cat any time he's nearby. I was awaiting his Tour to come around los Angeles.

I've seen him in concert .....me thinks 14 times. If you count his instrumental odyssey appearance at city walk universal city.

13 if not.

He's an incredible talent. A spirited man.

It's possible he overused pain medication and stayed awake until his system went into shock from sleep deprivation.

Whatever it is....I hope there's no indication of foul play. I love the little brother. The guy was a huge LIFE influence. I could carry on and cite song after song after obscure work after oscurer work (where much of his best work was relegated)

... But I won't.

I hate to be the one who shits on someone's grave, but putting aside the fact that he was enormously talented, Prince was also incredibly difficult to work with. Not to mention that he also went to great lengths to ensure that nobody would upload a video of his live performances despite the low quality of the video. He was also known for suing his own fans for sharing bootlegs even when they were not making a profit from it, and sending cease and desist letters to fan sites for uploading photos of him. I remember once Howard Stern (who is a big Prince fan) bashing the guy for performing in the complete dark at a private event. Prince also ordered a mother to pull down from YouTube a video of her baby dancing to "Let's Go Crazy". While most artists would be honored to see someone (quite possibly a fan) sharing a personal viral moment to their music, Prince didn't find it amusing at all.

He was protecting the likeness and protecting his product from exploitation by stream shares. Good for him. He brokered better deals for himself and used his wits to outwit his failed contract with Warner brothers. (Going by the impronunceable LOVE SIGN until his WB contact expired)

The cease and desist work was to prevent his music from being exploited by others who'd gotten leaks/recorded paisley park performances etc

Some DID gain money from them. I believe the lawsuit about the dancing baby was to get attention. He was his own and sometimes only PR guy. For better or worse.

I was hooked to Martika's (short) discography a few years ago, and this was my favorite song as well - both the album and the extended version are great.

If that's the case, it was a LOOOOONG and boisterously wild gay affair with Prince being a woman.

I really doubt the man was gay. He came from a pretty neglected and isolated upbringing and saw music as his mentor and guide. He gave as much back to it.

Taking pages from little Richard, Jimi, James, George Clinton, Sly and others it was clear his style was part of a good representation to cope with his slight height. The guy wound up being the larger than life guy he wanted to be.
