Hopefully The Real Wizard will get back to me soon regarding the flac sample of his that I queried on page 2 of this thread.[/QUOTE]
I'm not sure why you were waiting for my response since it's your bonanza ! But here we go:
As per my uncirculated tapes - the 9-4-84 recording is still better than the existing source. You're right, it's lossy - I initially thought it may be mp3 sourced, but I just couldn't be sure as the taper wasn't clear about what the lineage was (and he's nowhere to be found).
I have collected many bands for nearly 20 years, and never have I seen such a post on any other collecting website - The Traders' Den, Dime, Zappateers, Yeeshkul, etc. The contributors to those places find tapes, transfer them, and post them. They do not post samples accompanied by a challenge to others to do the same. This type of activity is best left to bootleggers and hoarders, which I presume you are neither.
I respect where you're coming from, as you're trying to encourage others to contribute. But the reality is - you really cannot cajole people into sharing things. You shouldn't have to do what amounts to holding the Queen community hostage in the form of a game. And now part way through you are redefining the rules - all of these tapes are uncirculated (four now, including On My Way Up's Vienna source), and three of them didn't meet an arbitrarily enforced standard of yours. It may be a surprise to you, but there are 4 and 5 sources of dozens of Zeppelin and Pink Floyd shows, and countless collectors of those bands are happy to have every source that's out there. You may not be a completist, but plenty of others are. Is this bonanza for you, or for everyone?
I have unearthed literally hundreds of Queen tapes, either new ones or upgrades of existing ones, always with complete transparency and accountability. If you want to add a few tapes of your own, then feel free. And if you don't approve of any of these ones I've provided, then just call any of my previous activity here a retroactive contribution to this project of yours. I shouldn't have to pony up to effectively give permission to someone to post a new Queen tape, and nor should anyone else.
Be the change you wish to see in the world. If you think there aren't enough new Queen tapes coming out, then make some Queen tapes come out - you have at least two of them. Maybe others will follow !

Okay! Might not be of any use, however I have what I was told was a master recording of Maine Rd, 1986. I'm aware that there are versions out there and so this may not be of interest. I bought it some 20 years ago and forgot I had it until recently. I've not heard it for years, no longer have the equipment to play it, and I have lost a HDD full of downloaded gigs - so can't compare it to see if it is, indeed, an uncirculated version. The taper promised he had only put it onto disc for himself and that it wasn't copied from another source. If so, I have a lossless alternate version. Lineage (rather, what was used to record the show) I'm unsure of - I am no longer in contact with the taper and don't know how to find him. If someone would like to do the honours of checking this out and doing a transfer/share, they're more than welcome and I'd be happy to send the tape out. David? Is this something you'd want to do?
I didn't offer it before as I had posted on a FB page regarding a "value" (not that I wanted to sell it, I just wanted to itemise my collection and values) and it didn't seem to catch attention. Other than a Roger Taylor show I shared a few years back, thanks to Marknow, I have nothing that's "new" so this is it I'm afraid.

For what it's worth, I agree with Bob. I think the initiative could have worked, but the constant changing of goal-posts and people being made to feel that their contributions are worthless is hardly the way to encourage shares. Also noted that you were happy for Bob to make multiple entries, however when you were asked to perhaps include another tape, you weren't happy with that as it wasn't the point in your game. Make rules, stick to them. It's obvious that you're just hoping to get something out of this, so just ask the person you're trying to lure. They're not going to fall for a "game" like this. Your contributions to this forum are fantastic Kurgan, really. We've not always seen eye-to-eye, but I do respect what you've done for this community. No need to spit the dummy over a disagreement - and that's not the first time I've said that to you here. I do suspect you have multiple accounts, so no doubt you'll be seeing this. Hope you take what's said on board.

Talking of multiple accounts, I always assumed that The Kurgan and Barry Durex was the same person?

My issue with this is; is it a call to arms in order to make more material available for the wider community or, simply, (and this is not meant to be an insult) an individual trying to get something they've been after for a while?
I understand the desire to get as much definitive material available in high QUALITY, but to demean genuine offers of help and assistance does nothing but create suspicion around motive.
I'd love NOTHING more than for the likes of JSS to open his vault and allow us to share the wealth (as its there), but the fact is that it's just not going to happen given past histories etc. If only Queenzone hadn't fallen so far.

JSS opened his vaults (with the exception of Hangman) about 5 years ago and formed a group called "Fanthology" which brought together over a dozen traders known for owning rare material and a handful of other people with knowledge and also skills to clean up and material that needed it so that it could eventually be shared with everybody.
With a combined archive of rare material, the group was in a position to do trades with other collectors (and indeed was in the process of doing so), when one of its members, David Fuller, took it upon himself to stick two fingers up to the group and release all the rarities amassed so far. Some were listed on Youtube, many others were SOLD (!) privately. All have since become public domain.
Needless to say, the Fanthology idea ground to a halt with the wind having been knocked out of members sails. With nothing valuable left to trade, it was done in that respect.
So here we are, back to shares on QZ with a handful of people attempting to do something similar to Fanthology: trying to open up free trade negotiations with other collectors whilst doing the best they can to clean up known material so that it can be presented in the best quality and form possible to the masses.

wasn't the rarities amassed by the Fanthology group only kept within the group like a walled garden that unless you had something to contribute you didn't get in? and because it was nigh on impossible to find anything rare because the fanthology already had it, until David Fuller came along?
are we not back to the same thing, where now theres nothing new out there coz its being kept between a few people, and theres nothing new to find?
maybe thats why the bonanza game hasn't worked as well??
