I thought it was well known that Freddie and roger went to a big do and Freddie add libbed a few numbers with the house band (standards - can't remember which) and roger left in a huff for some reason.

And when was this?

Khashoggi was Freddie's favourite tycoon.
John hated Hot Space. Frederick's favourite singer was not Paul Rodgers. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hasn't got 180 vocal overdubs.

Never understood the hate for this song. I think it's great.
John: "It's the one thing I wish I could do - sing."

I also like it a lot

Party segues into Kashoggi's Ship, and consequently Kashoggi's ship gets judged harshly by some Party poopers.

Weirdly I'm the other way around. It cutting in sharply seemed to hid the fact it was a pretty hollow git-bass-drums recording on an album dominated with bells and whistles. Which was only revealed when I heard the Deep Cuts new intro.

Party and Kashoggi's Ship are barely more than jams than somehow made it onto the finished album. Both show an alarming lack of musical taste.

I think their position on the album exposes them cruelly but I just can't imagine any other tracks opening the proceedings.

Maybe. But your comment made me think of Mustapha, possibly Queen's oddest song, which is also exposed as the opener on Jazz and yet it has stood the test of time. And of course Party and Kashoggi's Ship look very poor in comparison with most Queen songs from the 1970s. Bit of personal taste involved here of course, but I never listen to the opening songs from The Miracle as they tend to spoil the album for me.

I agree about Mustapha. I guess think of Party / KS as the 1989 equivalent of that madness. A bit of a stretch I know.
