Villiers,

Thanks for all the great detail about the David Evans/David Minns book. I had read some free snippets of it on Google Books a while back. I don't have a Kindle, but will definitely keep your recommendation in mind.

I agree, so sad that Freddie had to hide who he was. I can't imagine the complex feelings produced when one's parents are fundamentally opposed to the person we truly are inside. I never had a good sense of what Freddie's relationship was with his father, but in any interviews I have seen with his mother, she always seemed really proud of Freddie. I hope his parents were able to convey that pride while Freddie was alive. That yearning for parental love and acceptance is quite a basic need in children...and adults. Even Freddie, with his money and burgeoning fame would not be immune to that.

A Darko,

I love Mike Moran's story of how he first met Freddie..playing piano for him when he was so sore after having been in an automobile accident! He seems to have a very gentle personality.

Re: ballet

There is that one interview where Freddie is asked if he socializes much with the band and he admitted he didn't because they had different interests. He mentions how he likes opera and ballet. At least he got a chance to "touch" those worlds.

I know he didn't think he was a good dancer, but he moved so well on stage and in videos, that I always thought he did not give himself enough credit in that area.

Haha norrie,
As I have said before, I believe in signs from our deceased loved ones. However, I don't have much enthusiasm for people who claim to
have a special connection with the dead. It has been proven time and time again that these people tend to be Charlatans..[/QUOTE]

lol yes, I befriended a woman who claimed to have psychic connections to dead monarchs and various other figures. I gave her the benefit of the doubt because I believe everyone deserves a chance.
She turned out to have serious delusional problems (possibly schizophrenia exacerbated by weed!) and each time we went out on a history nerd's adventure, she ended up lolling all over tombs, wailing, kissing memorial plaques and going into meltdown whenever her psychic visions didn't fit with facts.

She once said she would try to connect with Freddie for me once...I declined. I'm okay luv. I don't think he needs her wailing all over the gate at Garden Lodge, trying to invoke his spirit...

Dear Thor and fellow Queen fans,

I just wanted to say thank you for all of you amazing stories! I came across this forum recently, and this thread captured me completely, I could not stop reading all these great things about Freddie and Queen. Thank you so much Thor for sharing all these stories with us!

I've loved Queen since my teen years when getting their records was actually a challenge (in the country I grew up), and music was mostly shared by finding someone who owned the album and then copying it... You would always carry a blank cassette tapewith you, just in case :) Then for many years I wasn't really into their music although it was present in our lives (the first piece my son learned on drums was We Will Rock You, of course :))

Anyway, recently our family was hanging out at a local street fest, and a children's choir of our city sang Bohemian Rhapsody... And the whole audience started singing along, and being among this crowd was an amazing and uplifting experience! After that, I came home and found lots of music and videos on Youtube, and so it began :) I have fell in love with their 70ies albums and live concerts - I barely knew this period before - they are incredible.

Rainbow, thanks for the heads-up! I had no idea they were 'celebrity channellers'! How very lovely for them!! Lol!
I have just bought the David Minns book and plan to read it as soon as I can.

Btw, have you (or anybody here) read this book? Freddie Mercury: An Intimate Biography? https://www.amazon.ca/Freddie-Mercury-Biography-David-Bret/dp/1291811087/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1510848691&sr=1-3&keywords=Freddie+Mercury%3A+An+Intimate+Biography
Today's list price on Amazon Canada is $3028.99!!!! I wonder what makes it so special.

Captainjory, I loved your story!!! I could not stop laughing thinking of your friend wailing around graves. If she does decide to wail over Garden Lodge, make sure you're there with a camera ;). I had a school friend once who scared a bunch of us girls to death on a school trip (we were just 14) by jumping and shrieking and wailing in the middle of the night, screaming in weird voices that she was possessed! Good times! :)

Welcome Catus. Could I ask (and you really don't have to answer unless it is okay) what country you are referring to? Everybody joining in impromptu to sing Bohemian Rhapsody with the choir sounds so fantastic!

David Bret is a bit dodgy, in my opinion. I've read another of his books on a historical figure and it was a bag of shite, he used disproved sources, gossip and stuff that was from fictional novels. So I wouldn't have high hopes for a Freddie Mercury book. He's probably the type to rely on tabloids, the modern equivalent. From memory (I'd read it before) it was very sensationalist and judgmental, using dubious quotes like 'apparently someone said in an interview' with no reference to the interview.

A mess that would benefit from an editor basically.

Thanks, Captainjory! I grew up in Russia (back when it was still Soviet Union). The Rhapsody singing happened in Canada, that's where I live now :) The singalong was an amazing experience - it gave me lots of joy and energy and brought Queen music to my life once again.

Oops, I realized I should have answered Noorie! Sorry, I never posted here before!

Thanks, Katydyd5! Yes, it was so interesting, you can really see Freddie's personality in Thor's stories.
