Oh and Katydyd,
We were always given prime seats to the right of the stage. As I have said, once we were directly
in front of Brian May's parents. And at the "Kind of Magic" concert, right next to Mick Jagger. Souinds
like good seats to me...LOL
Hello A_Darko,
I can certainly verify that Freddie would be interested in a ballet. Next to opera, I believe ballet was a
second love of his.Unfortunately this was never to occur.
Haha norrie,
As I have said before, I believe in signs from our deceased loved ones. However, I don't have much enthusiasm for people who claim to
have a special connection with the dead. It has been proven time and time again that these people tend to be Charlatans..
Welcome Lee! Thor did a lot of groundwork in making this thread a cosy living room compared to the otherwise sometimes harsh world of QueenZone, thanks to his welcoming and inclusive style. I hope you get to take away from this board as much as people here are probably hoping you have to contribute. It still amazes me that people from Freddie's one time inner circle are willing to reach out to fans and share all those gems and nuggets of anecdotes and information. Have a good time here!
Noorie,
I forgot I had read another book about Freddie... the David Evans/David Minns collaboration "This is the Real Life". Really enjoyed the recollections of people who actually knew Freddie. There is another book by the same authors called "Is This the Real Life". Almost the same title. Does anyone know what the difference in content is between the 2 books?
Never read the Ritter/Sussman book "Conversations With Freddie Mercury. Ritter has had conversations with many famous people including John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Robin Williams, and Whitney Houston to name a few. Apparently he is the "go-to" guy when celebrities feel like chatting from beyond the grave!
Dustin,
I'll second what you said..."The Untold Story" was really well done. I have watched it a few times!
There actually is another book like that out there, written by a Dutch woman who claims Freddie is het twin soul and accompanies her wherever she goes. it's extremely obscure and as far as I know was only released in Dutch. The writer's name is Gwyddon or something like that, I will look up the details tomorrow and try to provide a translation of the cover blurb.
The book is called "Fools Paradise" and the writer's correct name is "Gwyddan".
Thor, I probably should go back and reread this thread before I ask a question because I do remember now that you mentioned seats in front of Brian's parents and of course, Mick Jagger. I can't even begin to imagine how exciting it must have been to be at a concert as his guest. . So obviously Freddie would have known where those seats were. Did he ever make eye contact with you or acknowledge you in any way during the performance? Were you able to be backstage before the concerts? In the videos of those times he always seems pretty hyper, kind of like a moving target.
Rainbow, everything from David Evans and Minns (Minnsy) is excellent and matches up with stories from other trusted sources. David Minns was Freddie's first proper boyfriend (who he 'left' Mary for). They had released the book under a few different titles, but I own them all and they're all mostly the same. Although if you're looking for a REALLY good read, go for the kindle version (has to be kindle) of This Was The Real Life. It includes a long piece from David Minns about his time dating Freddie and he gives really interesting insight to what Freddie was like at the time. 75/76. He mentions Freddie being too afraid to come out as gay so he called it bi bc it as fashionable to be that back then and his coming home angry after having lunch with his parents.... turns out his family knew he was gay and heard about his being with men at some point before that and his mother made him very uncomfortable asking him about it at those lunches. Which is why Mary was usually invited (even in later years, as told by Jim Hutton). Freddie had been upset and confided in an early fan club leader saying "I'm gay and I can't say anything because it'll ruin everything". Which...also matches up with the things Minns had in his book. It's all so sad that he had been made to feel that way. Anyway, here's a pic of it if you're interested! This version was released after Minns passed away in 2007. That's why Evans decided to include it. Hope you enjoy!
Thor, i dont remember if you have discussed when Freddie was actually in a ballet in the 70s... It was a few years before you two met, but did he ever tell you about the experience? According to Peter Freestone, he found it a bit difficult but loved being "manhandled" by the guys onstage lol of course
Here's a clip, too

Rainbow61, sorry for not answer before.
Yeah, Mike Moran is a humble guy, and very talented musician. Without him, Barcelona wouldnt be possible. He miss Freddie a lot.
Hello Thor and Lee! Have either of you heard about Freddie being put on the tail of a Norwegian airlines plane? Have a look at your friend flying high!
Hey Katydyd,
The only time Freddie mentioned us was in a concert (I forget which city) where he said "this is for all the real girls" which he
admitted later was for us.
Hey there Squirrelly One,
I had no idea. How great to applaud Freddie's contributions to world harmony in this way.
Thank you so much for posting it.
