Well my friend Villiers,
You did not consider my views on what Mary could have done with the property. If you are preoccupied with
real estate values, God bless you. I am sorry, but the painting over a wall of fans who loved Freddie is not
the better answer for poor Mary. I don't dislike her, I just think she is not doing justice to the founder of her
fortune.
I hope you get whay I'm saying. I believe leaving messages at places like garden lodge and moms house are for the grieving. Not so much for those who have passed. Its a healing thing, but we have to be respectful to the owners of the houses.
I spoke with Jacky Smith a few months back about Mary and the house and she told us Mary was getting fined because of the markings. That's why she had it cleaned every few months for years and years. Then she tried with the clear plastic to allow fans to keep leaving notes but stop from having to keep fixing the door and cleaning the walls, and that didn't work either. Sure she has money, but it's got to get old having to pay fines, please the fans, your neighbors and Freddie's wished all at once.
What is the proof of Freddie's desire not to be memorialised. The Swiss would not agree.
No no, I did take into consideration your thoughts on turning into a Graceland of sorts, as you'll see in my previous post- Peter said it's not what Freddie would have wanted. He said he didn't want his home turned into a museum. She could do it, but if it's not what Freddie would have wanted, then I don't think it should be done.
I'm sure it would make money, but I don't think thats her main concern.
Villiers, you still don't answer my question of why a millionaire would not give up the house that was so
problematic to her. You say you are no Mary fan, but actually you sound like one in this discussion.
Who said he didn't want to be memorialized? You're jumping from me saying he didn't want his home turned into a museum to "he didn't want to be memorialized"? What? I never said he'd hate the statue. As a matter if fact, if you read my first comment you took issue with, it's suggesting people GO to the statue. Not sure where all this word twisting is coming from but I'm trying to be as clear as I can. I don't believe anything I've said here has been rude or argumentative so I'm confused.
Uh...Thor, you must not remember my early posts on this thread. I was so not a Mary fan, people for tired of discussing it. Supporting her right to not have fans write on the walls does not mean I support her choices outside of that topic. As you've seem in my comments about her since day 1. You'll also note that I was one of the ones who said she was wrong for bitching about Freddie leaving her with all the "weight" of the house and the money from way back when this thread started months ago.
Villiers, I still don't understand why turning the Garden Lodge into a memorial would be so awful. If Freddie did tell this to Peter,
Freddie probably did not know what an effect this would have on his post-mortem popularity. Look at all of yourselves, still interested
in Freddie so many years after his death. I don't want to argue with you Villiers, so I will apologize and hope we can rekindle our
fond relationship. No one winning and no one losing the argument, if that's ok with you. As they say on TV we "agreeing to disagree."
Thor Villiers has a point. Not only that but it's true that she/he has been pretty vocal about not supporting Mary's actions long before this topic came up. I'm sorry my friend but I can't help but feel like you're being a little unfair here. I'm sure you feel pretty passionate about this but perhaps take a breather and step back for a moment and come back to the thread with fresh eyes to re-read it all. I think you'll see that you were perhaps a little harsher than you needed to be.
Thor,
I have no idea how the other people in her neighborhood feel and was not speaking to the real estate issue. I see no harm in people leaving notes, flowers, or taping up a poster they made. Carving initials in a door, or worse yet, chipping off a piece of it, is not an acceptable way to show how much someone meant to you.
As far as Mary selling the place, while I would love to take a tour through that beautiful home, I can't expect Mary to sell Garden Lodge just to make the public happy. Yes, she has enough money to move someplace else, but I think it goes much deeper than that. Selling the home of the man who was probably her longest and greatest love would not be an easy thing to do. I don't know if this is true, but I seem to recall Mary asking Freddie to put the home in trust...but he wanted her to have it. I have no idea what they discussed before he died. Maybe he indicated his wishes for Mary to not only have the house, but asked her not to open it to the public. Considering that Freddie doesn't want anyone but Mary to know where his ashes are buried, maybe the idea of groups of people parading through his beloved home, snapping photos, buying Freddie souvenirs, etc was more than he could bear. I believe Peter that said that Garden Lodge was Freddie's love. If that is true, then it is not hard to imagine that the intensely private Freddie would feel much greater peace knowing the home he lovingly built up over the years and filled with the beautiful, meaningful treasures, his sanctuary , would remain off limits to the pubic (albeit an adoring public and one he always appreciated). Is it possible that Mary is just following through with Freddie's wishes? We may never know.
No more comments on this topic. Perhaps you are right Squirrelly. I will cool my jets and move on to the great
place we were all at on this forum. Humbly, Thor
Listen Thor, I don't take any of it to heart. We don't agree, but we don't have to agree on everything. That's ok. I just got the feeling you thought I was, idk, trying to take something away from the fans but that's not my intention at all.
I don't know if Freddie knew what he would mean to his fans years down the road, but he adored. I mean, I'm a huge fan that knows WAY too much about his life so.....there you go lol. In this case, either way it's out of our control.
I hope nothing I said offended you.
Did I just argue with one of the NY Daughters?! #Shook! Lol truce?
But he's** adored
(Sorry, typos)
Wow,
By the time I posted my last comment, an entire whole other conversation had taken place. I'm glad we can share what we think, even if from time to time we respectfully disagree. In the end, this is a group of people who have bonded over an amazing musician that we have such love and respect for. Peace!
Well said Rainbow, I agree. Peace is what this forum is famous for and I don't want to destroy that.
