Thor, now I remember another question I had, actually 2 or 3 in the same category. Whenever you were around Freddie before he went on stage, was he nervous beforehand? Did he ever mention what he liked or disliked about performing, and did he ever tell stories about an embarrassing moment while on stage? Thank you!

Hi Thor,

Did you know Joe Fanelli? What came of him? To me it's odd that he would uproot from US, move to London and live/work at Freddie's house after their relationship was over.
What was gong on there? Was he somehow disadvantaged in US and Freddie felt the need to take care of him? is that it?
Nothing really matters in the end.

Hi Villiers,
you wrote : "but because he was faced with that disease and handled it better than most ever could or did. He's one of our heroes for that,..."

How did he handle his disease " better" than "most" others ? In fact, who are " most others" to you ? Celebrities like Rudolf Nureyev, Anthony Perkins or Rock Hudson ?
Did he handle it " better" than these " most others" ? : http://time.com/3503000/behind-the-picture-the-photo-that-changed-the-face-of-aids/
http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/films/we-were-here/ ...or maybe " better" than these guys in far flunk Africa ? http://content.time.com/time/covers/0,16641,20010212,00.html

@Kokax
You seem to have taken my response to heart, buddy- and the wrong way.

I worked at an LGBTQ youth center for years. I saw many people with HIV who shut down and refused to face reality and keep up with their doctors. THOSE are the people I was referring to. The people I counseled for a number of years. If you are involved in the counseling of those effected by the disease, you are made aware of the many different ways people face it. Some accept it, and carry on the best they can. Some refuse any help and stop all medication as soon as they find out they're HIV positive. Some refuse any further testing and ignore it. Obviously ignoring the diagnosis and not protecting themselves after being aware of their status is not considered to be "handling it well". And no, I'm not referring to those who cannot afford medication. I'm talking about those who make the choice to ignore it and pretend it isn't happening.

Nowhere did I say those people you posted didn't handle it well. Nor did I say Freddie was the ONLY one who handled it with bravery.

To answer your question- I said Freddie handled it well because he did seek medical advice and did what he could to keep those around him safe and he also carried on knowing he didn't have much time- and focused his energy on working, a healthy outlet. As I said, many others just shut down and did not protect themselves or others after a diagnosis.

Please dont take my response as snippy or rude (because it's not intended to be) but counseling those who have the disease was literally my job for number of years. As was trying to convince LGBTQ youth to get tested. I'm not a person who would belittle anyone's struggle with HIV.

By the way, what makes you think those people you so kindly posted links about aren't also considered brave by us? You quoted me as saying "Freddie was ONE of our heroes for this", so I'm sure you picked up that Freddie wasn't the only person we consider to be brave and heroic in the face of the disease. It's possible I misinterpreted your comment. And if so, I apologize- but I got a 'not so cool' vibe from it.

Gosh darn kokax,
I have to agree with Villiers. You were comparing Freddie to other stars. Villiers was
definitely comparing Freddie to non-stars and I agree with him. Not that you are
necessarily wrong kokax, but were you perhaps in an adversarial mood?
T
It's all good...I have no interest in fights, at least not here.
Y
Yeah, like I posted earlier- it's possible I misinterpreted his response but Thor, you seem to have gotten the same vibe from it that I did lol.
No no, fights and pettiness were left in high school for me. This thread is far too interesting to hold it down with all that. I hope he doesn't take my response as a slap.

I wanted to say that this makes me a little annoying - when Freddie is mentioned in the media,he is immediately associated with AIDS.
Other famous people have died of this disease, but when they are talked about them in the media, AIDS is not in the foreground.
Love is a beautiful thing, so I asked questions about Freddie and Jim.Perhaps my questions were bothered somebody, I don't know, I just thought it was better to talk about some nice things, about love, friendship, art, music, parties, cats, etc.
I didn't mean to go into some discussion. So I apologize to everyone.

@Invisible Woman

Freddie isn't the only celeb that had ties to it. It's been many years since Liberace passed on, and he was one of the greatest pianists of the world- he also had it and it's brought up when people discuss him as well. Rock Hudson too.

It doesn't take anything away from their legacy or talent. It's something they faced and it will always be a part of their story.

Yes, love is great and I'm very glad Freddie seemed to have found it in Jim- but as in everyone's life, Freddie dealt with issues. Ups and downs. I personally feel it's ok to discuss them (as they are valid)- as long as it's done in a respectful way.

Of course, we don't need to know every tiny detail, either. I think this thread is great because it's found a nice balance of interesting stories covering all aspects of Freddie's Life (the good and the bad) without crossing the line of spilling gossip or disrespecting his memory.

Your questions have been fine, and I've enjoyed reading Thors responses to them. I knew a a couple who were close to Jim (he seems to be a topic you're interested in) and they adored him. Said he was a really sweet guy and had plenty to say about Freddie. They said they could see how much he really missed him. I'd like to think they're reunited now.
I
@Villiers
Yes, that topic really interests me, I think that their story is a beautiful love story.
I was not much interested in the private lives of band members.I was more interested in music and then I watched some of the documentaries and videos on You Tube, read some books and articles on the internet so private lives of Queen members started to interest me.
When I read "Mercury and Me" I really liked it and somehow I feel that what is written in that book is true. While I was reading some of the parts I was crying.
I know that many people have negative comments about Jim and his book, they say that he was just a "golddigger", that he didn't love Freddie. Some still claim that they were not even in love.
To me it's totally nonsense.
I think they really loved each other.

I also think that it's time to stop myself commenting on this thread, the members of QueenZone are interested in what Thor has to say and not what I say.So from now on I'm just reading, not commenting.

No, no Invisible Woman...please stay in the discussions. As I have said before,
you Super-Fans know a lot more about Freddie and Queen than I could ever
hope to know. Your input is so valuable...please continue.

Adreme16,
I never spent time with Freddie immediately BEFORE a concert, only after.
He never seemed nervous at all and seemed to go to his "job" like any of us
do. He knew everything that his audience wanted and felt very comfortable on
stage giving it to us.

Hi again Thor! This would be my second question on this thread, I hope you don't mind.
I was just curious to know, did Freddie have any kind of funny/curious/weird habits that would call your attention? I mean we all have our own kind of customs and things we may like more or less in our day to day, and he seemed such an energetic person I thought he must had vivid reactions to things and his own way to do them aswell.

Thanks in advance!
S
I asked that question already RBoulain. He said the only habits he had were getting into fight with his boyfriends.
R
Thor,

With the demands on Freddie's time with traveling, performing, being in the studio, press conferences etc, you would think he would want some time to himself to decompress. It seems like his private life was always just as busy as his professional life...going out to clubs, hosting parties, arranging meals with friends etc. For all I know, that may have been his way of relaxing, but I find it interesting that he never wanted to or needed to be alone. That he constantly surrounded himself with people and activity makes we wonder if he was uncomfortable being by himself for any length of time? I may be reading too much into this, as we are all different. It's just that his lifestyle seemed exhausting to me. Just wondering what you thought?
