That's really cool. Back then, when smoking was so much more socially acceptable, most smokers would smoke inside their homes. Sounds like he didn't want that nastiness hanging around and permeating everything.

Hi there, Thor - i'm not as well versed as a lot of these queenzoners but i've learned a lot having been reading and posting on and off since Richard had this site going. And to be honest prior to learning there was 33 pages of posting about a guy named Thor, I actually never heard of you. After reading a good chunk of them - that has definitely changed.
I'm born and raised in Montreal - and was only born 2 years after their last show here in '82. I am, however interested in any anecdotes you can cough up - over and above what you mentioned in earlier postings (the fire, Brian's parents). Did you only visit while Freddie was around for that one show? or were there other occurrences? What did Freddie think of the city - and what do you think of it (or did if you haven't visited since then)? I figure there must have been a vibrant gay scene here since at least the early 80s - anything interesting to talk about from that perspective?
Mainly interested in anything you know related to Freddie vs. Montreal.

...i'm really happy to learn from you, that Freddie liked TOTO IV ( "Roseanna", "Africa" etc)- some ppl here aren't getting it but it really makes perfect sense- really glad to have you confirm that. Do you have any other little recollections like that of other music Freddie liked or didnt like, from the time. I was once a musical semi ingrate...and didn't like TOTO (it was well before me) but mostly it was from having heard AFRICA (*the band still doesn't have much clue what it was about; just ad libs and African references.
But Rosanna is another story....how can ya dislike it? Their early albums are pretty damn good. Steve Lukather is quite open about discussing his career and is a hell of a guy.
Even showed ME gratitude for having ASKED to have HIM sign MY guitar (*a LUKE I'd bought second hand) he's a damn decent valley dude.

THOR...i know I'd kinda thrown out that "man child" bit about Michael Jackson in the first responses here. ....but I would be almost certain that Freddie and the band held him in high regard. He was already huge then, but had not YET "taken over the world": hell, the internet nearly "froze" with activity when he died. Numerous sites and search engines thought they were being bombarded with code viruses and hackers when that occurred.
An incredible occurrence....so. YOU as a primary source of information, are of course valuable for shedding some light on things from an impartial viewpoint.
Did you ever get any ill feelings about Michael and his behavior? I've always believed he was sincere in his efforts and concerns about humanity, children's health, well being, illness, joy etc. ...but he's likely to go down in history as simply a myth.
Was there any concern that Michael was who he was later portrayed by the media to be? I've been on the fence my whole life wondering if he was just simply repressed by religion and beatings and a motherly sensitivity, OR that he was a closeted homosexual... neither really ever gaining ground on the other.
I know it's really one question, and sorry for the lengthiness...it IS really a pressing concern for fans of the man's work. Is there anything u could shed on him, or was the experience all a matter of very professional matters?

Bri and Rog go to great lengths in telling us how much Fred would like Adam, and let's face it who the fuck are we to disagree? As a matter of interest, do you agree? There are many who think Adam is a fake, for example the same contrived little speech about Freddie every night on tour, doesn't massively strike as coming from the heart more as a thought out action. And as you say Freddie disliked fakes...
