Would you folks consider Adam Lambert a "rock star"?

Doesn't matter whether or not you care about QAL - just curious as to what the readers of this board think...

Arguments for:
- Frontman for a Queen collaboration (performing with established rock stars)

Arguments against:
- Little-to-no rock material of his own prior to or after his stints with QAL
- Lack of energy/charisma; poor reciprocity with audiences
- Voice better suited for musical theatre (West End-type or Broadway)
- Lacks grit for proper hard rock
- Poor control/balance of camp persona onstage - overdone
- Unintentionally awkward stage banter
- Inadequate discipline for tours (cannot remember lyrics, etc.)
- Cannot play any musical instruments (debatable as a necessary trait for any rock star, but putting it here for the sake of completeness)

Anything else to add to either list?

Magnetic personality and charisma!

No. But this is the era of idiot rappers male and female calling themselves rock stars.

U can equate lifestyle and success levels but there's nothing disciplined about any writing or instrumentation from the like even warranting rock star status. It means you PLAY in a ROCK BAND.

He's essentially a hired gun until they release something. I wouldn't say he's very charismatic either. ..his fans pander to him, which actually HURTS any growth there

Funny that someone by the name 'GrowUpGlamberts' feels the need to actually post a thread and cannot be bothered having objective arguments.
It's ok if you don't like somebody. No need to make such a big deal of it.
Why don't you get yourself a nice t-shirt with 'Í Hate Adam Lambert' on it.
it's good 2 b bad

Uh oh GuG. Now you have done it. You have sweetcaroline promoting his charisma etc, you have upset pankekestnotstellar, and you managed to get two people bleating on about 'haters'...all without you or anyone else saying they hate AL in this thread!

Tell me your secret/s how you do that .??

Kidding aside, you have very valid points GuG.

To GrowUpGlamberts:

Pretty much everything on that pros and cons list applies to Freddie Mercury circa 1974 and prior.

So yea, Adam Lambert is a rock star based on your definition. Unless you’re willing to argue Freddie wasn’t by then.

Do better next time.

And no, I’m not a Glambert. I saw him live and while I wouldn’t see him without Brian and Roger on stage, I believe he does an excellent job in filling in best he can for arguably the greatest front man of all time.

I don't hate Adam. He can sing. Maybe not my cup of tea, but I won't begrudge him personally on his talent alone. His discipline is another story. It's a subset of his fans (the ones who feel the need to propagandize for him) that get on my nerves.

I am willing to concede that. He definitely had a rock star attitude before then, but it took him time to ease into his role... certainly less time than it has for Adam with the remaining active members of Queen.

Elvis, MJ and Bono glam rockers LOL.
At least Freddie proved himself in the rock world. AL hasn't. And he never will while riding on Brian's and Roger's coattails.
